Gas prices....

The CHEAPEST price for regular gasoline in my area is $1.52/gal. That is a 25% increase in price since December 01, 2002.

We keep hearing of increased oil production from Venezuela, sufficient reserves, etc. Don't you just love greedy profiteers? Remember 2 years ago when the oil companies posted record-breaking profits.....the WHOLE TIME telling consumers that THEY were'nt artificially inflating the price of gasoline?

Personally, I think oil company executives should have a seat in Hell right next to the insurance company executives.

The cheapest gas price around here is $1.60ish. That is one of the many reasons why I can't afford to live in the county of Fairfax in the state of Virgnia.

Kind of hard to run a business without making a profit. And it's not like there's no competition in retail gasoline.

The reason gas prices are ridiculous is because every state and many urban areas all have different standards for how their gas is made. Oil is refined into a certain type of gas, and once it's made it can only be sold in a specific area that it was created for. If one area has a surplus and one area is short, the companies can't ship surplus gas to fill the void because it doesn't meet specifications.

California is the best. I'm not sure what that additive is that they put in their gas, but it's a carcinogen. Besides getting screwed on prices you get cancer too. I can see some big lawsuits in a few years, and rightfully so. I haven't driven in California in a couple years, but last time I was down there (US 97 south of Klamath Falls) the difference was 60 cents between stations on opposite sides of the border.

This is seriously an issue where Congress needs to step in. Either setting a national standard that can't be changed by localities or forbidding localities to set any standard would go a long way to bring prices down. Being how it relates to interstate commerce, it would be a Constitutional use of their authority (as if they care).

Its the same here in Alaska and we HAVE THE OIL!
The problem up here is that 80% of all the oil goes to the Brits. I am not sure where the other 20 goes.

They are also the state suing the oil companies for price fixing.
Just before the hike I traded in my Trooper for a Jetta and saving about $50 a month. Glad I did.

Six weeks ago the gas here was $1.25, now it's about $1.60. Thankfully I drive a metro & get about 220 miles for every six gallons of gas. My parents live in Orlando and drive less fuel efficient cars and spend about $100 a month on gas. The only thing more expesnive than a gallon of gas is a gallon of water from the grocery store.

IIRC, TN's state tax is around $0.37/gallon.

I wonder how cheap gas would get if a few oil company execs........never mind.

The additive you're talking about is MTBE. Not only is it a carcinogen, but not long after it became mandatory it started finding its way into underground water supplies

Long before anybody knew this, I disliked MTBE for the way it kills the performance of your car. On my last road trip between LA and Seattle (1996), I could definitely notice the difference. With fuel purchased in Oregon or Washington (non-MTBE), I was easily getting at least 5 MPG more than I was with fuel purchased in California (MTBE).

As far as the prices, Northern California has always been ridiculously overpriced, as much as 50 cents/gallon more than in Southern California.

I put some PETROL in my car today. I paid 76.9p a litre. That's $1.24 a litre. Now I don't actually know exactly how many litres there are to a gallon, about 5 I think. Therefore, we pay about $6.20 a gallon for our fuel.

We pay about 1.56 and that is the cheapest I can find around here. Over by the interstate where it's convenient, it's about 1.61.

I think we should all boycott gasoline from major oil companies like Mobil, etc. Go to the cheapie joint!

The car requires premium...91 octane. Of course, I can't find 91 octane, so I fill it with 93...At $1.76 a gallon.

What happened to days when the cheapest gas price was a buck for a gallon....$1.10ish....????

Everytime I go to fill up my tank and drive my car a few days, I have to fill it up again...

Speaking so of it...how many times a week do you fill up your tank and how much worth do you fill up your tank?

I usually don't fill up my tank until the gas empty light blinks up...it costs about $30...I don't know about how much it would cost with the new raised gas prices....
