  • Federal corrections officers in NYC and off duty weapons?

Can a federal CO who works in the MCC downtown or the Brooklyn center carry off duty for personal protection? I know NYS CO's can carry but does anyone know about the feds? Thanks

I would think that they would be subject to the same rules as an Fed BOP officer. IIRC, NO BOP guys, except those assigned to SORT (basically a SWAT component) can carry firearms off duty. Also, I don't think any, other than SORT, are allowed to carry on duty outside of the towers at their institutions.
Nobody ever wants to have to fight, but its a darn good idea for someone to know how.

Thats what I was thinking as well jeeper. But I must say that considering the type of work a co does, I would be worried if I had to ride the subway home in the middle of the night and meet up with someone I had a fight with on the inside with no back up. That could get very nasty. A buddy of mine who works at sing was thinking about going to the feds and wanted me to ask for him. Thanks for your reply.

        Dtrain:
Then you know how all of the lowly peasant citizens feel who are not allowed to own or carry firearms in New York. Off duty LEO and corrections have no more business carrying a weapon off duty than citizens do.
