If you have always believed that everyone should play by the same rules and be judged by the same standards, that would have gotten you labeled a radical 50 years ago, a liberal 25 years ago, and a racist today.

Huh, I suppose that means I know several members of minorities who are racist! Those self haters!

        Mikey T,

Are you sure you want to go there??? [Eek!]

Consider what your quote implies on a board such as this. Your quote carries the implication that LEOs (The staple topic of Officer.com) and Non-LEOs (those invited to participate in the discussion of this staple), may not be playing by the same rules, judgments, and standards. You may be unwittingly opening yourself up to criticisms that could brand you with the auspicious title of the "T" word.

If for nothing else than entertainment (and to get niteshift's panties in a bunch [Wink] ), perhaps we should explore the implied message to its conclusion. A little role reversal, er, everyone playing by the same rules, judgments and standards, might articulate your point. The following fictitious prattle should be inline with your quote, reversing the extremes of LEO and Non-LEO sentiments expressed in other threads that have appeared on this board.

TOPIC: HOW SHOULD WE BEHAVE TOWARD AN LEO???

        REPLY: JOHN Q. PUBLIC

I myself treat every Officer as a criminal until proven otherwise!!! Hey, I don't know what the Gl**k the guy coming up to my door on a stop is all about, nobody does. You LEOs will never understand. You have not "Been There, Done That" (being the guy you stopped), and you can't understand until you have!

He might not know if I've had a bad day dealing with crappy, violent people, being treated with no respect, and this is the last straw, but one thing IS for sure. He HAS dealt with crappy, violent people, being treated with no respect, and odds are greater that this could very well be HIS last straw.

And then there is the gun issue. For sure, if I perceive a threat to my person or the public, I'm gonna' respond and the LEO is not going to be on the winning end. One thing is for sure no matter what, I AM going home alive at the end of his shift. That's why if I see a gun and the cop doesn't offer the fact that he has one, he's gonna' get a .40 screwed into his ear! I mean, how do I really know this guy is licensed to carry the thing? For all I know its a stolen firearm. Or worse, his credentials allowing him to carry could have expired or be revoked. Best not to take chances and confiscate the weapon until he can produce some valid CCW ID.

A prepared citizen should already have his gun out and pointing through the door of his squad, er, I mean car, before the cop even approaches. After all, why should I risk my life with an armed man I have not determined is not a criminal and will not use it to harm me? I will, of course, use everything at my disposal to keep the encounter low on the Force Continuum, but if the cop sees I have a gun and pulls his, my hands are tied. I will defend myself. The law permits me to use deadly force to defend myself if another should make me fear for my life.

Then there is the issue of wheather I sue or not. Usually, I give the Officer the choice. If he is cordial and nice, I let him off and pay the ticket. If he gives me attitude, won't get off his cell phone, er, I mean Motorola, or otherwise behaves like a Jack***, the decision is made. After all, as the saying goes, 'You may beat the rap, but you won't beat the (legal) ride'!!!

And lets not forget the issue of race. Look, I know I'm just the poor shmuck you got pulled over, and I know this may not sit well with everyone, but come on. These white cops are ruining our country. NOBODY can deny that if you look at the stats, white cops are committing most of the excessive force, dereliction of duty, and behavior unbecoming offences. Yeah, yeah, some will say that's because 76% of all cops are white, but I say those people can make stats say anything.
        ----------------

Weather you're one who sees the above as entertainment to bring Mikey T's quote to the fore, your a troll about to reply with a flame'O'rama, whether you're an LEO, or John Q. Public, one thing you must admit. And I think this may be behind the quote.

The wheel turns, does it not.

Are you saying minorities can't be racist? In my experience some of the most racist people I have dealt with are minorities. Being black and hating whites is just as racist as being white and hating blacks. One is not worse then the other. I think there is a big misconception, mostly thanks to the media, that only whites can be racist.

Certainly not, I'm just commenting on the quote in that I know several minorities who would be labeled as racists by that quote. And therefore racists against their own race because of who A.A generally helps.

I think that most people that are aware of current events, and are capable of unbiased interpretation, can see that Mr. Sowell's remark is pretty accurate of todays climate, regardless of Hk's ridiculous attempt at explaining what I "meant" by it.
