I remember seeing an article in our local paper sometime in the last year about a guy they were calling "Lizard Man", who had scales tattooed all over his body. This split tongue would be the crowning touch for him.

As for me, when I want to look different, I go get a haircut. Guess I lack the courage of my convictions, huh?

      Idiots.
After childbirth, you wont catch me having anything done to my body that hurts too much....I mean, please...at least I had an epidural and beautiful baby after 27 hours of labor...all these tongue splitters have is a mutilated tongue that will develop scar tissue, maybe a keloid or two and a possibilty of speech impairment. Lot to look forward to, huh? People just get bored...
Funny that I say I wont do anything that causes pain....I had a brief thought last week about getting a tatoo of a lady bug on my hip or ankle. Then I thought about the look on Mr. Bunny's face and my mom and dad's reaction. I also remembered when my friend got a tatoo on her ankle and how much she bled and made faces.....then I thought about the possibility of a contaminated needle and will just buy a sticker to put on my ankle. I go crazy sometimes with the little sleep i get.....I should have done the tatoo thing when I was in my 20's.....if I do it now, people will think I an having some crisis of sorts. I do think it would look cute; a little lady bug on my ankle, but it is not worth the lecture from my parents. I know I am a woman, but you dont know my parents....part of culture, too...dont mess with mom and dad...ever. "I dont care if you are 55 and a member of AARP, I am your mother and I think.......blah..blah... Dont get me wrong, I adore my parents.I was not even allowed to use those sticker tatoo things from Cracker Jacks when I was a kid because my dad said it was not "proper" whatever......I could have been a rebel and done it when I was a young lassie, but I didn't. I will forever be controlled by others.....I am feeling rebellious, but I am a parent now and cant do anything to crazy...any ideas? Would love to do a navel piercing, but I have scar tissue in that area that may get infected.....a toe ring, maybe...not permanent. I had my hair colored a few weeks ago and it was very subtle, but out of character for me.....toe nail art.....
      Maybe I should just shop.....HELP.....

Bunny---I've threatened my son with a belt sander if he ever comes home with a tattoo! I did let him get one ear pierced, though. Told him if he gets anythig else pierced, he better not go to sleep, 'cause it'll come out the hard way. [Eek!] I do have to agree, childbirth was enough pain to last a lifetime. Stick with a toe ring or even an ankle bracelet.

I saw him on a TV show with a couple of the sliced tongue people! yuk!

Bunny, i got tattoos done, and i love them. Yes my mom lectured me on it, but i checked into the place first, and watched a friend get one done. I did them for me... i dont care what anyone else says or thinks. But us baby-boomers tend to be old rebels sometimes anyway [Wink]

I have toe rings and an anklet, and i want to get a toe ring tattooed. My friend did that, and now doesnt have the discomfort of the actual toe ring.. LOL. I like the belly button piercing, altho my niece's got infected, so i'm not interested in getting it done. Nor the tongue ring. There's a couple girls at work with a tiny diamond in the side of their nose that looks pretty, but i really dont want to be fooling around inside my nose [Eek!]

BUT, the tongue slicing, and any other deforming of the body parts (like stretching the earlobe), to me is downright nasty. JMHO

Have you seen those guys who had horns implanted in their scalps? They get a stainless steel socket inserted under the skin and then the horns go in.

Hey, if it floats their boat, who cares? It doesn't change my life.

BunnyFooFoo-- Try henna. No side-effects, no pain, can be quite pretty. It lasts a few weeks, depending where you put it.

I've done a henna design or two, one of which I used for a sermon illustration, with the result that my teen-age parishioners think I'm too cool.

Which of course they would take back immediately, if they ever saw this post!

I like the anklet idea. My toes are too tiny for a toe ring. It is not so much that I care what others say if I get tatoo, I just know it will be something I dont like when I finish this rebel mood i am in. I had stomach surgery 8 years ago and have a scar above and below my belly button. I dont want to mess with that and a belly button ring...besides; only my husband will see it because I dont wear bikini's because of the scar...looks like the put a zipper starting where my sternum ends down past my belly button...I still hate it after all these years, but it saved my life.
Maybe I will get eyes tatooed on my forehead..cant be any dumber than having horns stuck in my head. That is just plain stupid...next thing you know, they will have tails implanted in their butt. That would be funny, huh.
Nothing surprises me any more, I just worry about what the trend will be when baby bunny grows up.
Oh, I will just worry about now....

That's a little much. I went to a cosmetic surgeon to have the frenulum cut out (that's the little web of skin UNDER your tongue that keeps you from extending it more) [Wink] ...but I was fully anesthetized...and there was a (very) practical purpose to doing it

                          Trying to be different huh?

Piercing the tongue can be risky you can get a bad infection, with all the germs your mouth has. Your mouth is dark, moist and warm, a perfect breeding ground for infection.

Splitting ones tongue I think increases your chances of getting infected even more. It's a bad practice.

I won't even allow my daughter to get her navel pierced. Ears are perhaps understandable, providing one does not overdo it, but piercing any other part of your body is plain asinine!

Then again, to quote comedian Bill Engvall(the "here's your sign" guy), a belly button ring does serve a purpose; to hold up the chastity belt!

That stepson of mine; get's an ear pierced(not really a big deal, although I think guys are better off without), but then gets his tongue pierced, then his lower lip, as well as tattoos on several places!!! I told him I did not like that lip piercing one damned bit, and I was not going to keep quiet about it! Didn't think much about it, until he gets laid off from a good factory job, and goes out looking for other work. He was finally told point blank from one potential employer to lose those ungodly decorations if he even wanted to think about having a job there.

Not that he's not a bad young man. He did that mainly to spite his father, and to show his independence(he's 21, and on his own- has been since he finished high school). I really shouldn't complain; he doesn't smoke, doesn't use dope, and rarely drinks.

I'll give the young man some credit; he got those tattoos where you can't see them, unless he's wearing shorts or a tank top shirt, and he seems to have gotten out of the kick of the pierced tongue and lip. Looks human again.

I suggested one time about getting a ring put in his nose, like an old bull used to wear. He thought that might be fun. I then dared him to do so, and I'd then get a long stick with a hook in the end of it, hook it to the nose ring, and show him first hand why they used to ring those ornery old bulls! Get ahold of that nose ring, they'd go anywhere you wanted them to go! Needless to say, he scrapped that idea in a hurry!!

I guess teenagers feel ther need to express themselves in some way or another. In my day, it was cigarettes and booze. That evolved into smoking pot, and using other kinds of dope, which I was never in to. Nowdays, it's disfiguring your body, and driving around with the car seats laid way back, listening to that inane booming music. Go figure.
Never make a drummer mad- we beat things for a living!

Actually, the mouth is the fastest healing area of your body for the same reason it bleeds so profusely when cut...it has more blood vessels per square inch than most other bodily tissues.

Any piercing or cutting is a potential source of infection, but according to medical experts, the two most infection prone (and most prone to rejection of the metal) are the eyebrow and belly button. I agree that in the case of tongue splitting, [Eek!] there's such a large surface area of exposure that it's a much bigger risk.

It's also true that, in a bacterial sense, the human mouth is filthy, which LEO's know all too well, is why human bites are so dangerous. On the other hand, saliva flow is directly related to cleansing the oral tissues, and the most recent JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) presented a study showing that people who kiss a lot or chew gum, etc have much faster healing mouth sores and abrasions, precisely because it stimulates saliva production and flow. And now that we're back to more interesting topics of oral fun [Wink]
