Hiya, I am a city police officer in the state of Georgia. I tend to make it a personal habit to always travel armed, but the problem I have is what to do when you travvel outside your state. I just recently took a trip with my wife and newborn son. I travelled armed during my trip, though it was concealed. I have a good habit of not highlighting myself , but my concern lies with other officers and what will they do.

Is it a general practice to offer professional curtsey to out of state police officers. This is something that I practice, so long as I have the descretion to do so.

The states that I just recently travelled through is SC, NC, Va, Md and Washington DC.

Well Bob, I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the board. That is UNLESS you are either 1) Contagious or 2) A PITA. From your name, you just MIGHT be both!

Anyway, to your question. I think you will find that most of us on HERE say we extend professional courtesy as far as CCW by other LE is concerned. However, don't hang your hat on it. It could mean your career.

I'm not personally familiar with any of the states you carried through on your vacation, but we have folks on here from ALL of those places! I'm sure they will respond when they see this thread.

Bob, as far as I'm concerned, your creds are your CCW permit here in SC. Of course I am only one small goldfish in the tank, but I dont know to many cops that would say anything to you about it.
