  • Here we go...

Last night around midnight, we are out cruising. We had just got back from a 4 hour long prisoner transport. We are traveling in a construction zone, double yellow lines for 6 miles, barrels on both sides, yellow flashers on poles, the whole bit going about 50 MPH, just kind of easing along.

We meet a car and a SUV on the other side of the road. We notice that the SUV is tailgating the car and the punk pulls out ACROSS the double yellow no passing line and just dang near takes us out with a head on collision.
We lock up the brakes go into a skid, the kid sees us at the last minute and pulls back into the lane from which he came. The seat belts lock up and our drinks in the drink holder on the console go all over the place.

Needless to say, I was ****ed.

We whip it around and light the SUV up which stopped immediatley. The kid knows he screwed up and was very appologetic ,very ,very polite.
I get the liscence and the kid wont make eye contact with me.

I coached the kid in baseball. I read him the riot act about passing on a double yellow and people getting killed from stupid drivers and the whole bit.I give him about a 5 minute lecture.

Heres the thing. It is the MAYORS kid.
I've heard of him having several run ins with the city cops and them taking some heat from the mayor(did I mention that shes a woman?) about tickets they have written him in the past few years. We do a check and hes had one ticket speeding ticket showing from a city 3 hours south of here. I can only assume that the several tickets I knew about were "fixed".

I gave him the ticket. I rekon Ill be hearing about it. I know the mayor. Well.

    Really well.

She was my wifes teachers aid many moons ago. I've coached baseall and basketball with her husband. She calls my wife on the phone ocassionally and even asked her to be her campaign manager when she ran for mayor several years ago.We have been known to eat out with each other before. My wife had both of their kids in class.

The kid is really a good kid, like any other teenager he just gets stupid once in awhile. He told us he was "unaware" of the double yellow line even though it was several miles long and there is only 2 places you can pass in about 7 miles of construction zone.

I guess I'm about to expereince small town politics at its finest. One thing about it, shes dosent have quite the influence with county cops that she does the city boys. I'm interested to see where this is gonna head. Past expeirence from others say its gonna be ugly. I even got a few radio calls about it on the talk around channel when the other units heard the traffic.

I guess we'll "see" how much influence she has . Of all the kids to nearly get killed by it had to be the mayors kid. [Eek!]

    Oh well.

Well I'm glad you wrote the ticket and were not intimidated by a run in with the mayor but I have to ask..

Why is the fact that she is a woman relevant? You seem to bring this out as a representation of something... Can you clarify?

Nope...I was just trolling and you got CAUGHT !
      [Eek!] [Eek!]
I figured you'd catch that. Didnt take long did it?

Actually, I said because women tend to be more emotional about stuff like that. His dad would say something like "he had it coming" whereas Mom would say "those mean nasty cops wrote little bubba a ticket !" or something to that effect.

Thats all it meant.Nothing more, nothing less. You do agree dont you? Women in general "tend" to be more emotional about things ?

Not really. I don't really like to stereotype. I prefer to get to know the person before I assume things about their character.

I dunno, I've met some pretty emotional and irrational men ... one of my English profs got sued by one of those guys ... he wrote a great essay for his son about whatever the topic was (it was a British Lit survey course), and the reason he got caught is because he called the prof to complain about some of the comments she made on the paper (which earned a "B"). When she found out the student didn't write it, she flunked him from the course, and reported him for plagirism to the academic standards committee ... and the family promptly sued her & Towson U.

... that was off topic, wasn't it?

Actually, I'd think the fact that you know the mayor would mean you wouldn't hear about it. You're not some nameless cop she doesn't know.

Is a common problem with Leos who live in the same town they work? I think it would be much easier to live in a different town. I know this won't elimante the "mayor's son issue".
I was just curious if this is common amongst you all. The last interveiw I had used sceneiros like; you pull over a person working closely with the chief on the budget... What would you do?
You pull over a senior citizen...keep in mind they consisit of the largest voting population...what would you do?
            Police=politics?

If it's irrelavant why do you ask? Maybe it is relavant. I think it is...

I only think it's relavant to Raychel. I don't think it's relavant to the event, just to her, and those like her.

Those who wonder why the gender of the mayor matters? All the stories I've seen of whacko mayors on O.comers have involved male mayors, so I'm kind of wondering what her gender has to do with it, too ...

I guess you're one of "those" people who like to stereotype by gender?

You see, here, that's how leftists work. They bring it up, ask you to explain, and then, somehow, it's your fault. I don't buy it, and few others will either.

                        Watchman is a LEFTIST now?

In case you forgot (or more likely, didn't read), Watchman is the one who brought up the sex of the mayor ... not Raychel.

To clarify, some folks think that because someone is "something" that they need special treatment, or, because they are a certain way, they can't get fair treatment. Unfortunatly not all of us are created equal. Just because you are woman, or a man, does not mean you have the corner on the market for a certain job.

Unfortunatly, the above assessment will only add flames to the fires of the leftists who are bent on equality, no matter who gets hurt, or passed over. Remember the leftist creed, "to be tolerant, you must be intolerant."

What? WTF are you talking about? Raychel wanted to know why Watchman made a point of the mayor being a woman. There's no "special treatment" involved (except as it applies to any possible repercussions to Watchman), and I'd like to know where you think there is.

So, here is how the Rightist's Mind works (according to Mike). Blame a leftist for bringing up a subject and blaming the rightist. Do this even though a rightist brought the subject up. When called on this bit of information, change the subject and damn political correctness! If this fails, call the leftist a "godless red commie bastard."
