Philadelphia police officers shoot and kill a man who was reaching for the firearm sitting on top of the center console....

It's obvious that his intent was to shoot at the officers who initiated the traffic stop, yet witnesses said he didn't deserve to die?

What is wrong with people? I see this more and more. If he didn't deserve to die, then what? Do they think he deserved to fire off a few shots at the officers before respectfully succumbing to a handshake and a nice chat?

Sick of these unreasonable / ignorant people...

We are all sick of them.

So far as I can tell, they are a very small percentage of the population, however. The rest of us, on your side, are sitting back and laughing at them making fools out of themselves.

If he was reaching for it, that means it wasn't in his hands, which means the police murdered another unarmed (black?) man. Is that about right?

Yea his debt was paid for the attempted murder (reduced to agg assault) of two other people. He did;however, have a stolen gun in his car which he tried to grab after struggling with police. His debt for this NEW crime is what's at issue. It is unfortunate that he died, but I hazard to guess the gun was to be used by him on one or both of the officers. He may have tried to turn his life around. He may have even succeeded for awhile. Monday morning between 0245-0305, his past life caught up with his new life.

If this garners national headlines for months on end, our country is ****ed beyond salvation.

The glaring issue here is that the story didn't start off with the police account of the incident. For those skimmers who make it half way into the story, the police are already the enemy.

Also, as long as the poverty pimp/race baiters, socialist government programs and a thug culture prevail largely in the black community, this mess will only get worse. Jail and prison time being a badge of honor, not doing well in school because it is too "white" and always thinking they're victims dooms them.

I'm going to use the term "ivory tower academics" when I write a rebuttal to slam the columnist who wrote something in one of the local papers about how cops should be trained to "defuse" a situation, blah blah blah. I didn't read it all, but when he suggested something about how an officer should "move away" from a suspect instead of engaging, that was all I could stand to read. barf.gif
At least he didn't spell it "diffuse."

I believe he's an economist and a former UMaine professor. Another classic example of someone who doesn't have to do (and probably couldn't do) a job, but thinks he knows all about how to best carry out the job.

I suppose it would take me too long to search ODMP for all the officers who were killed while trying to persuade a suspect to drop a gun, but I bet I can come up with some examples.

                  Needs something like this:

The squeaky wheel gets the grease and the anti-cop wheels have been squeaking mightily as of late. They're the very vocal minority. Their perception isn't based on reality so it's easy to manipulate them. It isn't going to help society to have more police officers die in the line of duty and the malcontents aren't going to do anything but observe in the time of trouble.

"He was a normal young man," said his cousin Susan Walker.
Normal young men don't get into fights with police. Normal young men don't have a stolen gun in their vehicle. Normal young men don't this:
Tate-Brown was arrested at age 19 on attempted murder and related charges in a Juniata Park shooting. Police said he walked up to two men sitting on a porch, pulled a .40-caliber handgun from his waistband, and opened fire, striking one of the men three times in the leg, and grazing the other.
He paid is debt to society with that incident and he paid in full with this one.

WTF do those idiots think he was going to do with the gun once he got to it?!? Hand it over to the officers??

Stolen gun + 2:30 am (what was he doing out so late if he had a good job?) + driving around without headlights on = up to something.

Exactly. According to the people there, he was probably just driving the streets peacefully with no headlights in an effort to not blind or inconvenience other drivers, because as we all know, he had ZERO bad intentions, right?
