  • Concealed ankle pistol

According to my department i can only use the glock 27 or a J-frame .38 S&W for carrying on the ankle.

I was wondering if anyone carried either one and had any experience with it.

    If you carry a G22 I'd carry the G27.

Otherwise the J-frame is the way to go if those are your choices.

I used to carry the 27; actually, I attempted to carry it in a Fobus ankle-holster. If you never have to run, it will probably work out for you, but it is really heavy and bulky. I carry a Kel-Tec P3AT now and hardly notice it. I know this doesn't help you if you only have the two to choose from. I was following tanksoldier's logic, as the 22 magazine will also fit the 27 so I would be able to feed it if needed.

I have a 27 and an ankle-holster that I carried for a VERY short time. I found it to be cumbersome. I prefer to carry with a belt holster or clip-draw with the 27 tucked inside my pants. If you need to carry a bug on your ankle, I suggest getting a quality rig for the 27.

I wouldn't carry on the ankle. An airweight J-frame is OK, but the 27 needs to be attached to your vest under your shirt or something, not on an ankle.

Galco ankle holster with a 27 works well.
Where'd you learn that, Cheech? Drug school?

I carried a .38 in an ankle holster for many years without problem. It's much lighter and more compact than the G27.

27 on the ankle. With the right holster, it will be secure and not move about enough to be an issue. While in uniform, I am not as concerned with concealing it and I am retention. Off duty either ankle or IWB.

I carry a 27 in an ankle holster sometimes. I am thinking of ditching it (the ankle holster) though and going to something else.

If you carry a G22 or G23 as your primary, I'd go with the 27 for ammo\mag compatibility.

Both are excellent, but very different guns. See which one you can personally draw and hit a target the fastest with on a shot timer.

Galco Ankle Lite for either will work great.

I am a big fan of the J frame Smith as a BUG. If you're ever in a situation where you need a BUG the biggest concern is going to be something that goes BANG when you pull the trigger. The wheel gun will be your best bet for that regardless of the situation.
