Principal, 4 teachers charged in test cheating scandal in Philadelphia School District (PHOTOS) | 6abc.com

This story won't receive a fraction of the news coverage or outrage that a private comment made by a racist basketball team owner did, but this non-front page news is about as outrageous as it gets. Sadly, many commentors are blaming standardized tests as if this drove the teachers to do this rather than the scumbag teachers themselves. They need to be fired, charged criminally and stripped of their pensions.

Finally, enough with the bul***** about standardized tests and how they are somehow biased. Right, I mean just because 2 + 2 equals 4 where I am from, doesn't mean it equals the same thing where you're from? Or, maybe Sonny boy is really a dumb *** and his parents can't admit it. The world needs ditch diggers and, oh by the way, I come from a family of them and they make WAY more than I do( and they're not dumb asses).

    Fired? Sure

Charged Criminally? Ummmm WTF are you smoking?

stripped of their pensions? If they put money into their retirement then they need to get back what they put in.

I really don't see this being the news story of the century.

Academics seems to be taking a back seat in public ed these days. They weren't doing those kids any favors for when they get out into the real world.

On a side note, why are at least 90% of school teachers and principles female these days?

Wasn't there a bigger scandal than this in Atlanta last year?

A big part of the problem is that politicians have ensured that teachers go from teaching to teaching to the state test regardless, which puts enormous pressure on administrators, teachers and students. So you have a school district in which children's families don't value education and, in some cases, actively discourage it coupled with teachers who will be denied pay raises or, in some cases, will lose their jobs and livelihood because it is their fault that their students didn't pass the test. It is now the teacher's responsibility to overcome negative parental influence and negative societal/community norms that the child is exposed to and they are held accoountable for failing to achieve the impossible. I don't condone it but I understand why it happens.

So you don't think cheating on an exam, essentially fraudulent representation of scores on a test administered by a government entity, is criminal? Interesting since this has been investigated at length by the PA Attorney General's Office and these teachers had to turn themselves in.

I don't practice in PA but I am certain there is an offense by which they can charge them and I am confident we could do the same here.

Why do we try so Hard for Little things, and so Little for Hard things?

Exactly my point. But folks will justify the cheating by saying standardized tests are biased. Bull. If you get a low score you're simply not smart. What's the shame in that?

What I'm wondering is did they really have to put the streets they all live on? I can't stand ABC but I agree with you on this not getting any coverage compared to the whole Clippers fiasco.
