FYI USMC Birthday

For those of who have served in the USMC and those interested in Marine Corps culture .
The Birthday of my beloved Corps is 10 November 1775. The Marine Corps was formed in Tunnes Tavern Philladelphia...yeah I know , formed in a bar...figures right? Well, the tavern no longer exists, however, every year outside Cookie's Tavern in Philly is a USMC Block party. Marines young and old and the curious gather here to celebrate our venerated history. One 20 some odd dollar fee gets you a t-shirt, a mug a calendar and all the beer and chow you can handle. This thing is pretty huge. A good place for Marines to clebrate the ocassion and a good place for the curious to learn about Marines...I highly recomend it. The only reason I bring it up is become I am putting in for my leave days for it this week.

My Dad, another Marine, used to have this poster which displayed a suit of armor a sword and a shield. On the shield was the EGA...the caption above the equipment read "Unless you 782 Gear looked like this...Don't tell me about the Old Corps."
