  • Is this a double standard?

Ohio Wesleyan University recently ordered the rugby team to stop wearing t-shirts that said "We may not go down in history, but we'll go down on your sister."

Accodring to administrators, a womens rights group on campus complained that the shirts were offensive.

However, nobody stopped the womens swim team from wearing t-shirts that proclaimed "We swim for Dick", referring to the team coach Richard Hawes Jr.

Yeah it is a double standard but most guys would not find "swimming for dick" offensive in anyway and would just sit there and make comments to the swimmers and all like they did in high school. Just another example of how todays standards are enforced.

WEll..... I agree, both could be offensive. The rugby shirts don't have an "innocent" explanation though, they are obvious in what they intended to say. The swimmers shirts sound nasty, but the coach really is a "dick" so I think it's a little bit less offensive... I'm not sure if I'm saying this right.... but the swimmers' shirts could have been ordered without thinking of how it sounded while the rugby shirts, there was no way anyone could've misunderstood what they were ordering and how it would be interpreted. I wouldn't wear either one of them myself.

Both teams should be ashamed of themselves.

What's become of morality and family values in this country? I'm tempted to get some custom t-shirts of my own.

How does "Police for Bush" sound?

No one has a right not to be offended.

Yes, I believe it's a double standard. I personally don't approve of what either team is doing.

I don't think either shirt is appropriate really for a school team.

Has anyone filed a complaint about the swimmers' shirts? If so, then it obviously would be a double standard. If not, then the management has no requirement to intervene.

I wouldn't wear the first shirt.

The second one, well . . . it's just unforunate the coach had to have that nickname. It wouldn't be offensive if they swam for Jason.

Its just a shirt. People need to get over it.

Every spring here at school we have a mud volleyball tournament. This past year we had a team made up of CJ majors and the name of our team was "Dirty Cops". I thought it was funny.

                          It's not a double standard.

It would be if the womens read something like, "We swim for your Daddy's dick" or the men's read, "We play for muff".

All of it disgusting and inappropriate in an educational institution, but not a double standard.

Double Standard- Yes. But like some of the posts, if no one complained about the swim team's shirts, oh, well.

Plus, it's at a university, so the whole thing is obviously twisted to the extreme.

The real funny thing is that it's a "Christian" university.
