12-Year-Old Girl Shoots Intruder During Home Invasion In Bryan County

A 12-year-old girl took matters into her own hands during a home invasion in southeast Oklahoma.

It happened on Wednesday when the girl was home alone. She told police a stranger rang the doorbell, then went around to the back door and kicked it in. She called her mom, Debra St. Clair, who told her to get the family gun, hide in a closet and call 911.

That was when St. Clair dropped what she doing and raced home.

"I drove home at a really fast pace to try to get to her, and when I got here the police were already here. And they had the suspect," she said.

The during that time, the intruder made his way through the house. St. Clair's daughter told deputies the man came into the room where she was hiding and began to open up the closet door. That was when the 12-year-old had to make a life-saving decision.

"And what we understand right now, he was turning the doorknob when she fired through the door," said the Bryan County Undersheriff Ken Golden.

The bullet hit the intruder, who deputies identified as 32-year-old Stacey Jones. He took off but did not get far before officers took him down.

"He was sitting down, the policemen had him apprehended at the end of the block. All I saw was some blood coming down his back. I'm not exactly sure where his injury was, but I saw some blood there," explained St. Clair.

Jones was taken to a Texas hospital by helicopter after the incident. An investigator on the case said Jones was released from the hospital Thursday and extradited to the Bryan County Jail.

The 12-year-old girl was not injured during the ordeal.

Yep, another one Ann Curry and the Gang at NBC won't touch. Like the box score though, Good Guys 1......Bad Guys 0. Last few days, the Good Guys have been pitching a shut out.

Such a tragedy, I hope that girl turns out OK. At 12 years old, it must be a real shock to have to shoot somebody.

The article did not go into detail but I wonder what her previous experience was with firearms.

Am I the only one whose first thought was that I wished it had been a larger caliber weapon she had?

This girl deserves credit for what she did - no doubt she was probably very frightened. Let's hope this chump gets some "love" in prison for getting punked by a 12-year-old girl.

An article elsewhere said it was the first time she fired a gun.

~Gun control has always been about punishing the people that didn't shoot anyone.

At first I though you were kidding and then I saw that you were a civilian. The girl may be a little shaken up but, if her parents support her I think she will be just fine. I would take her out to a dinner at the restaurant of her choice. Steak, I would get her the best cut of meat. Seafood, the biggest lobster she could handle. She did right, she did what her mother wanted her to do. She did what she had to do. What the jack-wagon that broke into her house did was probably more frightening than shooting the gun through a door. Her parents now need to get her into a gun class or train her themselves. Next time she will put 3 or 4 rounds through the door and the PoPo will not have to chase the guy down.
Stupid has no color or race, everyone can participate.

Haha what do you mean "IF" her parents support her?

Dad: "I'm sorry honey but we just can't have a killer in the family, we will have to disown you. I'm sure your foster parents will be very nice."

Sometimes these criminals are not very bright. They see someone leave the house, and assume that there is no one in there. It's a chance that they take. I think this young lady was brave and he deserved what he got!

A 12 year old shouldn't be home alone, imo.

At 12 I was already the babysitter taking care of the children too young to take care of them selves.

I think she proved she could take care of her self.
