We've deleted several posts here which directed to another site.
We seriously regret if ANYONE leaves here, but that is a personal choice, In the end, we hope you'll see that regardless of who owns the site, who moderates, etc. we'll still have the same (if not higher) standards, more strict and timely Restricted Area access guidelines, and overall a forum that you can be proud to post on.
We are committed to ensuring that the Forums, for the majority of users, are strong, peaceful (while stirring up some great debate and discussion, and fair. Even today, as I write this, dozens of other discussions are taking place as they normally do, without any hesitation.
Thanks
Leader

you have nothing BUT the almighty dollar at the core of your interest in owning this site.
Its been a week. Most people (MOST) are moving on. We're trying to do the best thing overall for the site. If you have concerns, questions, ideas, etc. please PM them to us. But we need the forums to move on. New users, and users alike, don't need to keep seeing the same fears discussed continuously. Any discussion about complaining about the new site, its owners, etc. serves no purpose. If you wait a bit, before getting riled up, you'll either realize that or move on. Either way, its time for the forums to get back to business.

A week is hardly enough time to work through the complaints most people have against your seizure of this site. If you don't want General Topics tied up with repeated threads on the issue, then fine. Give us an area to post any complaints or grievances in .

Ummm...not to be a trouble maker or anything but a big part of moving forward is usually some closure.
No offense, but you are the new kid on the block (even if you own the block) and in order to make an adjustment with a changing of the guard it is necessary to get a chance to wish the old crew a fond farewell.
They were a major part of this forum and to just cut off the good-byes just seems callous.
So far what I have read from you does not seem to be written by a callous person so I just thought I should let you know the impression you may be giving, no matter how unintentional.
Peace
~GG

Actually we have just been able to restore most of them. The old system did things a bit different, in single files rather than a database (simple explanation), so if the main file that listed the threads was corrupted it created some problems.
Those two forums have returned. Anything since May 1 or so in the Civil Rights thread was corrupt, which I think may correspond with the timing of the last BB upgrade. But from here on out it should work fine as near as our tests have shown. Let us know if there are any problems. User posts may update with the new posts found overnight tonite.
There may be a delay in responding to specific questions until later tonite. Three of us spend the last 24 hours almost straight making sure everything was working as close to perfect as possible, so its time for a little rest. We'll be adding some more cool features soon as this new program offers a lot more than the old for users.

Oohhh....the forums are back. Cool
Of course the farewell threads are still locked (and without explaination).

What about the missing forums? Civil Rights and Various Topics I believe are at least two that are now gone completely.
Oh...and just curious....why close down nice little non-bashing farewell threads?

Just a few notes:
a) You should be able to edit your profile and put in a customizable title.
b) We'll be adding new features in the coming days and week so we will try to get the 'member number' back but can't totally guarantee it.
c) Some older posts were corrupt in the old database and couldn't be transferred. I'm pretty sure we got the majority of posts and threads at least the most recent and more importantly active.
d) To the post who said 'so much for their pledge not to change anything' we've said from the start there would be some technology changes and forum upgrade software.
e) The left hand column will be coming back, BUT, the good news is that this new forum software allows you to turn the left column 'off' if you are logged in and set it as such in your preferences, or jsut click the 'hide left column' link that will be near the top of the opening page. Look for this within the week.
f) If you've got any questions, please visit the FAQ first, and if that fails just drop us a PM.
g) I **think** we can get the post counts to match the old ones, even if some of the threads are gone. We'll look into this first, and if possible, will post a note about how to do it (or how to let us know). We'll advise within the week.
h) And finally, NOTHING in the forums is tied to commercialism. Any threads lost were because they were corrupted, not because of what was being discussed. Again, it should have been only some specific series of threads in a few categories that were corrput and not transferrable.
Thanks

"Maybe the missing count is tied to the missing forums?
Maybe the missing forums are tied to advertising $'s?
Contraversy is not always good for "business."
Controversy is great for business....keeps the place from turning into a sugar coated gossip section.
Debate is necessary not only to learn other's point of view and perhaps learn from it but also to better understand our own point of view as well.
From my time on officer.com I learned that I can't just believe that my views are right "just because". I have to back it up, explain, reconsider, and grow.
Without controversy and debate we will just stagnate.

Scratchy,
The header at the top states that the PMs were all lost. It also appears that any thrads older than 063003 have been wiped out as well.

I just noticed that I am missing over 70 posts. I was over 700 post. Now I'm at 625. I wonder it it'll make it to 700 again?
I also set my preferences so as to browse under the invisisble mode, but I still se my screen name listed.
I always wondered why the various topics forum existed though. I thought that stuff should have been in the general section.
