I can see, 10mill, you are going top be a problem. You like leather, chains and bondage. I guess you will just have to do my dishes for me for a week everytime you are bad.
I am never bad. I am the epitiome of graciousness and very prim and perfect. My integrity is beyond question.
So I went to the police driving range and missed the target EVERY DAMN TIME. Must have been my dainty little hands I WAS able to drag the 65 pound dummy almost two inches.
Anyway, you are safe. I didn't like holding that gun at all.

It drives me nute, these kids trying to "act Black". I have to believe that you know what that means, in spite of your question. I don't care if it IS the "dominant culture" in their immediate area. The whole rap/urban Black thing is ridiculous..the Blacks should stop posturing that way, let alone their white kid immitators.

You don't see many people acting that way in the professional business world. If they want to get ahead, these kids need to drop the act and grow up.

Actually, I agree with Frank on this one......

(pausing while people regain their composure).

To a degree, to say that someone is "acting black" or the reverse that a black is "acting white" does presume certain stereotypes.

However, "social learning" aside, one does have to question a white kid that grew up in Insane's Hickville, USA sounding like he is a cast extra from Boys in the Hood.

That's the general idea...someone must have been pulling your leg if they told you those orange cones were "targets".

People said the same thing when Elvis ripped off a bunch of black music to become an icon for white rock and roll. Same thing for the Stones and Clapton (and the rest of the guys from Cream) when they co-opted the black blues field and made it their own. Same thing way back in the 30's when the best places to hang out and listen to a band were the black clubs.

Ever notice all the failed attempts to pull off some slick urban dance move at a corporate Christmas party? They may not walk around talking like Eminem, but they're definately doing their part in a small way to co-op black culture. If blacks want to succeed in the white business world, chances are it would help them to act more like those in charge. But by the same token, Eminem probably wouldn't have succeded if he tried to talk his way into the Hip-Hop scene speaking like Miss Manners. And make no mistake about it, that boy has succeeded.

There's a lot of good bands out there, the trouble is finding them. Nowadays, anyone with a couple grand can make professional quality recordings with a PC and some talent. You may as well throw your radio away unless you want to hear the same old formula repeated ad nauseum. I'm more into j*** now and horn-driven funk bands. With all the electronic crap out there, you almost have to see a band up close and live to tell what's real talent and what's computer generated. You don't even have to be able to transpose or construct a chord anymore. Play one note, and hit a few keys on your PC with Pro Tools, and you're a musician. At least Hip-Hop "was" something original. Now it's going to be co-opted even more into the mainstream, and you'll be hearing it on the muzak systems before long, just like "Stairway To Heaven".

First off what makes you think "corporate america" is killing off rock!?!?
I don't know about you but where I live all there is on the radio is classic rock. We have one station that plays rap music and it isn't hard rap either.
The record companies see where the money is.
Teens who like rap/hip hop + rap/hip hop performers =Big F%$ken flows of cash.
I think the whole "black" thing is a show of power in a way.
How many older people are scared of teens today?
So will some one please bluntly explain what "acting black" means? What about "acting white", how does that go since I have been accused of that.

Thats just it..it's all CLASSIC rock. The record companies are no longer pursuing signing new rock acts a la the bands of the 70's, 80's and even early 90's. What passes for new "rock" now is actually "alternative" rock, and cant hold a candle to the arena rock acts of 20-30 years ago. What ever happened to a band composed of a guitarist, bass, drums, maybe a keyboard...and a guy who can sing? I've had it with these new acts that all have songs with the same lame beat and some guy moaning in what passes for singing. Plus, what happened to buying an album and having 4 or 5 hits on it? Companies seem happy to put out albums with one hit and a bunch of fodder. Thats a flashback to the late 50's. CD's cost too much to be dropping cash on a CD with one good song on it.

my 16 year old son tells me about some of the morons he knows that try to "act black".

"you live in white suburbia idiot...you've never even seen a "hood" let alone trying to act like you came from one!!!"

in the same respect when there are successful black conserative types, they get labled as not "being black enough"....so go figure.

as far as the music business, i do listen to a lot of classic rock on the radio, only because of the fact that i hate rap/hip-hop and i'm tired of the "screaming angst ridden" bands that some of the other stations play. jeez....what the f**k are these idiots so damn angry about????

the days of good radio is pretty much gone. too many stations are restricted by too many rules and certain "playlists" that the companies that own the stations dictate. too damn formulaic playing the same damn song 20 times a day.

whatever happened to the days of top 40 radio when you could hear the beatles, the temptations, johnny cash, bobby vinton, steppenwolf and the cowsills ALL on the same station?? or the days of "underground" radio when you heard some of the best rock with no formula or playlist to follow??

i mean how many times can you hear "stairway to heaven" or "freebird" before you want to smash the damn radio???

once again in the same respect, where will the next zeppelin or skynard come from?? most record companies aren't interested in "developing" new bands anymore. all they are concerned with is "let's put this cash cow out there, milk it, and then find another group to fleece."

anymore today's "stars" are tomorrow's shoe salesmen.

Those suburban kids have seen the hood.

They watch the Shield every week. They also know how corrupt police are.

i doubt if kids even know what "the Shield" is. if it ain't mtv then they don't know about it. and if they did watch it so what?? that doesn't mean they have seen the hood anymore that me watching "gone with the wind" makes me a slavemaster. how stupid a statement can you make anyway??

and i don't think you are going to endear yourself on this forum with your line about corrupt cops either.

I hate Mainstreat TV (aka MTV). What crap. I'd like to burn their studios down and ax off Carson's testicals with a spoon (eh, maybe not).

Nick, I think 555 meant was that kids see cops in real life, percieve them correctly or incorrectly to be corrupt, and thus wouldn't really "learn" anything from The Shield. She didn't say all cops were corrupt.
