    Idiots....

The site you are attempting to access has been categorized as containing unacceptable content. It has been identified as inappropriate and blocked by your Tennessee Department of Education Internet Usage Policy.

Access to web sites that have been identified as providing inappropriate content will be blocked. This determination is based upon various content categories. Content identified as inappropriate includes:

    adult-oriented material,

    extremist-militant material,

    racist or hate-oriented material, and

incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority (seditious material).

If you have discovered a site that you feel should be unblocked, please Request a Site Review or access Authorized Override to view the website for a designated time period. A login is required to access Authorized Override.

If you feel you have reached this page in error, please contact your local Technology Coordinator. They NEVER respond to requests to allow ACCESS, but will BLOCK a website in a heartbeat.

    Disclaimer

Your school's filtering service blocks a number of categories of Internet web sites that your local school authorities have generally deemed inappropriate. Included among these categories are sites that are obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit, which the Federal Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requires to be blocked in order for your school to receive certain federal funding. CIPA, however, allows such sexually explicit sites to be unblocked in certain limited circumstances. A password, therefore, has been provided to your school district with the understanding that a password user is (i) 17 years of age or older (ii) an administrator, supervisor, or other person authorized to disable the school's blocking or filtering technology; and (iii) not disabling the blocking or filtering technology to enable access to visual depictions that are obscene or child pornography, unless it is for a bona fide research or other lawful purpose as determined by your local community. You also may not disable the blocking or filtering technology to show or enable a minor to access, under any circumstances, child pornography or other visual depictions that are obscene or depict a sexual act or sexual contact that lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value as to minors. Finally, you should understand that a record of the internet web sites visited during your Authorized Override session may be sent to the person(s) or school authority who is involved in disseminating passwords for your school and/or school district.

I have a funny story about this. A computer programer at a friends school asked her to say in all the "bad" words she could think of so she could type them in and block them. They were in the library after school. So she's saying things like, "Boobs, etc" and the programmer was using these things to block access. Suddenly, she heard laughter and there were 7 students behind her. She almost died as they burst into laughter.

Last year I couldn't get to CNN. Fortunately, I cracked the network Admin's password a looooong time ago.

Otherwise they probably wouldn't let me spend all my time on all the gun boards. [Wink]

NEITHER my site admin OR the county's admin has the override password.

Wow...I guess this would be a good example of why I love New Hampshire, the "live free or die" state. We only installed a internet filter because the Federal Government forced us to; each school can install any filter they wish, and it can be as lax or strict as the community wishes.

Or, as one fiendish little English teacher in room 47 decides. Ma ha ha ha!

I gave up trying to do research on the school computers because alot of the health pages were blocked. I requested to unblock a few health sites, so I would not have to waste my free time at home, when I could do it at school. They never responded or allowed access to these sites

And somehow the students know how to enter the porn sites

Several years ago, I was researching a topic for my Supervisor, as he was scheduled to teach a class to our Officers.

                The topic? Sexual Harrassment [Eek!]

Our Information System, ummm, people, in their infinite wisdom, had a block on everything that contained the word "sex"

I could do the initial search on Yahoo (the only search engine they would allow access to), but when I clicked on any of the links, I ran head-on into the dreaded "Novell Border Manager", saying that the site was prohibited.

I ended up doing the research at home, and printing out the info for him.

Now, we can go almost anywhere, but "Big Brother" is always watching. Then main thing they don't want is "unauthorized program downloads".

They almost blocked the IE updates [Eek!]

My high school used Bess too. Well, they tried. I was a network admin and when I found it was preventing people from doing their research for health class, I removed the filter from certain computers. Eventually, I went to the principle and he allowed me to designate a computer lab without the filter.

In my Junior psych class we took a survey to see how happy the students were with the way the school was. One of the best comments was: "The internet filter, 'Bess' is a lot like communism. In theory, it's a good idea but in reality, it just ends up ****ing everyone off." [Wink]
