By the time I hit post on this, Tim McVeigh should be dead.

Some people oppose the death penalty and honestly, some of their reasons are sound, even if I don't agree. However, there are a few people, like McVeigh, for whom nothing less than the ultimate sanction can be just.

I know it's not a very Christian attitude, but I wish his death was more painful, more traumatic. Yes, it sounds like the medievel practice of "purification by pain", but just quietly going to sleep doesn't seem like "enough" justice to me. I want revenge. I know that God already laid claim to that particular function, but I still wish it.

As a parent, I can't imagine what those people are going through. My thoughts and my prayers are with them. I cannot imagine their pain, having an innocent child taken from them because some jackass with a truck load of fertilizer couldn't express himself otherwise. McVeigh's attorney's stated today that he was "sorry" for those who died, but did not regret his actions. Defiant and sick until the very end.

I wish that there was something profound that I could say, something that would give comfort to those who lost loved ones because of McVeigh's political views. But there's not.

So, while tears still well up in my eyes when I read the words of those families that lost so much, I at least know that we have ridded ourselves of this pathetic parasite. Good riddance. I honestly hope that there is a special place in hell for his twisted soul.

I'm wondering how we can avoid things like this from happening again. Remember, McVeigh said himself, that if those responsible for the Ruby Ridge and Branch Davidian raids were brought to justice, he wouldn't have bombed the Oklahoma Federal Building.

How does killing innocent children and civilians in OKC make what happened in RR or Waco better? It doesn't. He was a twisted piece of trash looking for an excuse to act out his homicidal fantasies.

At the end of the "Today" show they posted the names & pictures of all 168 men, women and children one at a time. It was heartbreaking. I learned today that at least 2 female victims were in late stages of pregnancy.

The manner in which is was put down was almost too respectful to him IMO. I wished they locked him in a tiny, windowless cell for 24 hours a day only giving him enough food & water not to die. I wanted him to experience a hell on earth so to speak. They could execute him after 30 years of this misery.

I will be the first one to be anti-death penalty for criminals when criminals are anti-death penalty by not killing people. I've heard his death described as part of the cycle of violence- BULLSH/T! After Pearl Harbor we defended ourselves against the enemy (by killing them). McVeigh was Oklahoma's Pearl Harbor.

Here's a slightly different take on the issue.

While I absolutely DO NOT condone what McVeigh did, I do understand his reasoning. I repeat, I DO NOT condone the murder of innocent people and firmly believe that justice was served by the execution of McVeigh.

With that said, I also am in agreeance with the belief that an out of control federal government declared war on its citizens at Ruby Ridge and Waco.

I only regret that Reno, Clinton, and Freeh weren't strapped in right next to McVeigh.

At Ruby Ridge, the FBI did not perform at the level which the American people expect or deserve from the FBI. Indeed, for the FBI, Ruby Ridge was a series of terribly flawed law enforcement operations with tragic consequences.

Unfortunately, I don't think this is the end of McVeigh. He has left behind a legacy of hurt to the victims and he may have even ingratiated himself to a select few wackos in the world. I would not be surprised if more lunatics followed his example. He went out of this world unrepetant and in my honest opinion very little was resolved. This was what it was justice..but a pyrric victory for most.

McVeigh was nothing more than a soldier - WE created him to do what he did.
His responses about the innocents killed were STRAIGHT out of Pentagon-speak - "collateral damage" is the euphemism for "killed innocent non-combatant civilians." He made a decision as a SOLDIER would do and was fully prepared to die for it, like a soldier would. Our army trained him.

For crying out loud, WE bombed TV stations in Belgrade; ALL of those people were "just doing their jobs," they all had families, NONE of them were in the army, carried weapons, shot at US Soldiers. Yet we killed them the same. We rationalized it as a people because they worked for Milosevic. Our Pentagon didn't give a **** about them; they were just in the way, too bad, "regrettable that lives were lost." It was as if McVeigh was reading from their debriefing script.

Well, McVeigh merely employed the same logic to kill workers for the Federal Government.

I want to know why nobody questions what our glorious Uncle Sam does, when it kills hundreds of regular, plainclothes civilians, yet we have a revenge fest when someone kills our civilians in the name of some cause.

Are we THAT propagandized to where we will accept the killing of mommies and children so long as our government places its stamp of acceptibility onto it?

The whole OK incident, like the Waco and Ruby Ridge incidents, was very fishy. Serious questions exist about how an air burst ANFO bomb could have done that level of damage to a modern, reinforced concrete building. But, it's all swept under the table...the FBI guys and the ATF guys get promoted. When they shot Weaver's wife, they lied throught the teeth in court about the whole incident until Forest Rangers in a fire tower a few miles away called bull**** on them. There have been so many lies and damned lies that have come out of our "law enforcement" agencies recently, that it's no surprise that those of us with a looser grasp on reality have started running around in the woods with camo on playing soldier and practicing blowing things up. It's also no surprise that some military-trained people, so inclined, might actually put a bomb in a truck and park it next to a Federal Building.
