  • Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall stabbed; wife arrested

Miami Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall was admitted to the intensive care unit of Broward General after being stabbed Friday night at his Southwest Ranches home.

Marshall's wife, Michi Nogami-Marshall, 26, was arrested by the Broward Sheriff's Office on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in connection with the stabbing, according to the arrest report. She is being held on a $7,500 bond.

When contacted by phone early Saturday afternoon, a man identifying himself as Brandon Marshall hung up when asked how he was feeling.

Nogami-Marshall told deputies that she stabbed Marshall with a kitchen knife in self-defense, according to the arrest report. Marshall told police that he slipped and fell on a broken glass vase, but deputies found no blood near the vase.

The arresting deputy described the couple as being hesitant to discuss the incident, according to the report.

Marshall, who caught 86 passes for 1,014 yards and scored three touchdowns last season, was not seriously hurt, according to a team source, who didn't know details of the altercation.

"This is a very difficult time for Brandon and his family, thankfully he will make a full recovery. We simply ask during this time we respect his privacy," Marshall's agent, Kennard McGuire, said in a statement.

"Brandon will be OK and is in good spirits preciate the prayers and concerns," tweeted Jaguars receiver Mike Sim-Walker, who has been training with Marshall during the offseason.

Marshall's NFL career has been marred by off-field incidents. He was arrested on multiple occasions and involved in a handful of domestic-related incidents with his ex-girlfriend between 2006 and 2009.

While most of the charges were dismissed, dropped or reduced, Marshall did serve a one-game suspension in 2008. The length of the suspension was shortened from three games by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

This incident could prompt another suspension under the NFL's personal conduct policy.

This isn't the first time Marshall suffered a serious injury during the offseason. During the 2008 offseason he suffered a bad laceration to his arm when smashing through a television set at his home.

Marshall initially said he slipped on a McDonald's wrapper but then admitted he also was involved in "horseplay" with a family member.

Marshall, who attended the University of Central Florida, signed a four-year deal worth $47.5 million last offseason, which featured $24 million guaranteed. He is set to make $6.5 million.

Because of the NFL lockout the Dolphins cannot have official contact with Marshall.

However, Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene said in a statement: "We are aware of the report. And our thoughts are with Brandon at this time. We will look into the matter. But because we are not allowed to have any contact with any of our players, we will refrain from making any further comment."
