  • Federal agent's gun found in restroom at Texas airport

    Not good.

(CNN) -- A passenger using a public restroom at El Paso, Texas, International Airport found a bit of a surprise: a gun left behind by a federal agent.

The firearm was found Tuesday morning past the security checkpoints, said Terry Sharpe, the airport's operations manager.

"It was found in the sterile area," he said. "The investigation is still in place and is ongoing with the airport and the TSA."

Sharpe said the weapon was discovered in a women's restroom by a flight passenger, who notified authorities.

"At that point, law enforcement took over," he said.

Sharpe did not disclose further details on the agent who left the gun behind, citing the current investigation.

I've never seen any restroom in any airport that was sterile.

      I just had to.

If that's the case I want to know why he decided to drop his load in the womens restroom.

              agreed.

there was an incident where a warrant's officer left his county issued glock and some magazines while on the can - in a restroom shared by defendants for probation.

Lucky I arrived early, lucky I had to go #2 that morning before the defendant's were screened that morning.

Assuming you're correct about the law, and unless there were posted signs prohibiting firearms, I bet that act in itself would not constitute a crime. However if a 6 year-old uses the potty after you and accidentally shoots herself, you are in some deep doo-doo.

Sadly, you are correct. I have a friend that is the Security Manager for a hotel in Crystal City (Arlington) and he says that his maid staff recovers weapons all the time.... To the point he has Point of Contact Numbers for all the major Federal LEO Agencies......

We had a captain leave her gun in the can. It was found by a jail prisoner who was cleaning the building. Fortunately he was a good guy and reported in immediately. She got a day off....

When the raids were going on at the Jewish meat processing plant in Iowa I was in my motel room and the desk called up and asked to check if the previous tenant had left some items in a drawer. Well there was a gun, a ICE badge and ID and Duty belt all rolled up nice and tidy. I took to front desk and I assume the items were returned.

I remember reading a story listing a bunch of the equipmen that federal law enforcement agancies had reported as lost. On that list were Chevrolet Suburbans, fully automatic rifles, badges, and more than a couple dozen sidearms.

I have my cch permit. I can honestly say that I would miss that weight on my hip.
