A Catholic nun faces up to 10 years in prison after admitting to embezzling more than $850,000 from the college where she worked as chief financial officer, the Westchester Journal-News reports.
Sister Marie Thornton, former CFO of Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y., pleaded guilty in federal court in Manhattan today.

Thornton, 63, was fired in 2009 after school officials discovered the decade-long embezzlement involving fraudulent checks, phony vendor invoices and misuse of a college credit card, but did not tip law enforcement.

The stolen money came to light in the college's tax filing, the newspaper says.
Thornton's lawyer says his client is "accepting full responsibility" for her actions and wants "to move forward to make amends for everyone affected."
