No and here is where it gets stranger. His wife picked him up at the accident scene. She was 45 years old.

Back when I lived in Truth or Consequences, which is an entirely retirement community, the senior citizens used to run into parked cars at four miles an hour. My sort of accident. Everything happens in slow motion and there's no point in yelling because the person who hit you can't hear you anyway.

My older grandmother also had to have her car taken away from her. She started driving the wrong way on interstate entrance ramps and executing a number of other highly interesting vehicular acrobatics.

I'm starting to think that when I turn seventy I will voluntarily shred my driver's license.

I used to live in St. Petersburg. In fact, I lived there half my life. I used to get REAL nervous if I was walking into a store and and elderly driver was pulling in to park in a front parking space. Really! I did! I would even stop and wait until they were safely parked.
Driving means such independence for a person. My own grandmother had to have her CAR taken away from her because she kept getting copies of her keys made because she knew they would take the set of keys she had currently. I remember seeing her tears as my uncle drove off in her car. It had just gotten to the point she could not be allowed to drive. Everyone felt terrible. No matter how much we tried to console her or how many were available to drive her where she needed to go, she never got over losing her driving priviledge. I think, when they have to do that, the feel like their life is so close to ending.
Some of them live alone or have an elderly spouse to care for. Taking their car is the end of their world and they fail to see the danger.

Lived in Florida at one time do they still just keep mailing your license out to your house forever or do you have to go into the license bureau every 6 years?

    Car Crashes Through Barbershop

Man Reportedly Asked For Haircut After Accident

OCALA, Fla. -- An 85-year-old man drove his car through the front window of an Ocala barbershop Monday and then got out of the car and asked for a haircut, according to witnesses.

Police said that Roy McBride lost control of his Lincoln Town Car on his way to get a haircut in the Silver Springs Shores area. As he approached the front of the barbershop, his car continued over the curb and then slammed through the store's window.

There were three people inside the business, including a small child sitting just inches away from the front bumper of the car, according to the report.

McBride was taken to Munroe Regional Medical Center, however, there were no reported injuries inside the barbershop.

Officials said that the area of the shopping center that was hit by the car has been shut down because a support beam was hit.
