God bless good foster parents. Some do it just for the pittance that comes with it. We have had several children here in the last few years killed by foster parents. They are taken away from a dangerous situation and unknowingly placed in a more dangerous situation.

What little faith I ever had in DCFS was shattered when, several years ago, a boy here in our county was killed by his mother's boyfriend and the body stuffed in a suitcase. DCFS knew about an abuse problem in the home and never intervened, result...a dead child.
At least this "chained boy" is alive, but the emotional scars will be deep. It's a damn shame!!Criminals prefer unarmed victims.

This story is pretty sick, but sadly Oregon can beat it.
Last year two 13 year old girls' bodies were found buried in the backyard of one of their neighbor's houses. Turns out SCF had failed to investigate multiple reports that the neighbor had been raping one of the girls.
Not long before that a social worker was reading the newspaper while a child was strangled by his birth mother during a "supervised" visit.
And on the other end of the spectrum, the agency seized three children from a couple without the tiniest bit of evidence of abuse. After being jerked around for over a year, the parents were driven to "kidnap" the kids from social workers and flee the state. I certainly don't excuse that behavior, but I'm familiar with the story and I know that this was out of a genuine love of their children.
I'll seriously consider being a foster parent when the time is right.

Yeah, that's your side of the story that NBC told ya to believe. You don't know the officers involved with the case (the initial complaints of abuse and neglect). Anyone who smacks his daughter and knocks her down the stairs of the bus deserves to have his kids taken away. All they had to do was cooperate and they would have been given their kids back.

You should know better than to bring up this case around me mike.I will give you this though... You will make a good foster parent. There are so many kids needing a good home and needing good parents.

You know damn well that I've read absolutely everything I could find on this case, and you also know how suspicious I am of mainstream media. I wouldn't take NBC's word for anything.
We've argued this as far as we possibly can. If you think that a single bruise on a kid gives the government the right to kick down a family's door and take the kids, you're entitled to that opinion. Just don't come crying to me when a carload of hooded government thugs steals your kids in the middle of the night.

I know we agreed to disagree. I'm just saying... never mind. It's too much work.

hahahahaha That's good. That's funny. You sound like my Sociology Prof last term. First off, I won't give the "government thugs" a reason to steal my kids in the middle of the night. (They didn't "steal" the christines in the middle of the night either) However, in the rare event that they do come, I know that you are probably the one who called them so yeah, I will come crying to you.

I'm not saying the system is all good and doesn't need reform. Yeah, they screwed up with the two 13 year old girls. Yeah, they've screwed up in the past. But the system does work and it does help a lot of kids.
