  • Good or bad reasons to get/not get a ticket

I think these are bad reasons not to get a ticket:

    1. I am late for work.
    2. I didn't see the stop sign.
    3. I didn't know I was going that fast.
    4. I didn't see you running radar.
    5. I can't afford a ticket right now.
    6. If you give me a ticket it'll cancel my insurance
    7. My mom/dad/spouse will kill me.
    8. I'm new in this town and didn't realize this was a speed zone.
    9. I have to use the bathroom really bad.
    .
    .
I think these are good reasons not to get a ticket:

    1. My speedometer just quit and I was just keeping up with traffic.
    2. My spouse is on the way to the hospital and needs my blood.
    3. I'm sorry, I just wasn't watching my speed as I should have, and have had no tickets.
    4. I'm Rick Perry, governor of Texas.
    5. I have to get home and post on officer.com to keep the cops in line.

Goes right along with "oh, I'm sorry. I didn't see you." As if that matters! So, what they're telling me is, "I don't have the maturity/responsibility to obey traffic laws without adult supervision". This also tells me that they were well aware of what they were doing which, in most cases, will get a ticket. I usually don't let one thing a person says or does influence me, but a response like that shows it was more than an oversight or an "oops".

What else weren't you watching ? The kid running after a ball, the paper delivery guy pulling out in front of you, the stop sign, the red light...me following you around for five f'ing blocks with my blue lights on!!!

No tickets have no bearing on me. I can't tell right away if someone does or doesn't have any, and even if I could, it could mean

      A. They've never been caught
      B. They've been able to sweet talk their way out of one.

      Cancel my license or insurance.

I couldn't give two s***s about YOUR insurance or YOUR license. They mean nothing to me. If they mean something to you, you'd be more careful and obey the traffic laws.

"Don't you have anything else better to do?"

      "Not right at the moment"

"People are out there KILLING other people!"

Like I've mentioned in a couple threads, there were almost three times more traffic fatalities than homicides. Traffic enforcement IS important to me.

Imagine a world where everyone followed traffic law. The only car accidents you would have would be due to road conditions (ice/snow), animals (deer), or mechanical failure (firestone tires). Now think of how many lives that would save. Or if that doesn't matter to you, think of the insurance money it would save. Liability insurance would not be needed and if it was still required imagine how cheap it would be? Traffic enforcement is important, it does save lives, and so will you slowing down or taking an extra seconds to actually come to a complete stop for the stop sign. All it takes is one time for you to not be paying attention when that kid jumps out in front of you. You will never be able to take that mistake back.

I don't know if this falls in the good or bad column, but one I recently had said:

"I've been sick, I've got really bad diarrhea and I think I just **** myself." [Eek!]
Caution and worry never accomplished anything.

Some of the times if I catch a kid driving WAY over the speed limit, I'll call his/her parents. I figure it's the parent's insurance that will skyrocket, and if the kid does not have a job, it'll be them, also, that has to pay for the ticket.

Plus I think parents can deal out punishments far greater than the courts can. I called one girl's parents on a paticular stop, and they came out to get her on the spot. The next day there was a 'For Sale' sign on her car in their front yard.
