When I go in the grocery store, at the check out counter, they always ask me, "Paper or plastic?"
This has been going on for years, and since this is not a thing isolated to Texas, I am pretty sure most of you have had this question thrust at you as well. But does it really matter to you? It doesn't to me. I mean, I don't care what kind of sack they put my food in. Why should I?
For years now, I have been asked this question and I always tell them, "I don't care." Do you?
One day not long ago when the checker had finished tabulating my purchase, she told me how much the total was. Acting quickly, I opened my wallet exposing my cash and some credit cards and asked her, "Paper or plastic?" She was not amused.
So again I ask, why should I care what kind of sack is used?
For years and years now I have shopped at the same store, and sometimes I notice that other people ask for plastic mostly and don't seem to want paper. I mean, it's an issue with them, or so it seems.
So I decided I would ask my doctor about this. I told him when I go to the grocery store, I always get asked, "Paper or plastic?", but that I don't care. He asked me how long I have felt this way and I told him always. That I must have been born like that, and that there was no way this could be a learned behavoir. My doctor consulted medical texts and finally came up with what he believes is the root of my ambivilence.
I am bisacksual. I must be.
