At Least 8 Shot In Downtown High-Rise

    Victims Transported To ORMC ER
    POSTED: 11:55 am EST November 6, 2009
    UPDATED: 12:44 pm EST November 6, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. -- At least eight people were injured in a mass shooting inside a downtown Orlando high-rise just before noon Friday, according to the Orlando Fire Department.

All patients have been taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. At least four of the eight patients are serious trauma cases. Due to the incident, the emergency room has been closed to patients. The ER is on status X.

Dispatchers with the Orlando Fire Department said a shooting with multiple victims was reported on the eighth floor.

WESH 2 reporter Gail Paschall-Brown, who is at the scene on the ground, said that 15 employees came out of the building very distraught. Paschall-Brown spoke with one who said that a former employee came into the office who hadn't worked at the company in over a year.

At least six ambulances and dozens of police cars and fire engines have arrived at the scene.

Orlando Fire Department spokeswoman Vicky Robles said a shooter has not been taken into custody.

"We don't know who they are," Robles said.

WESH 2 News reporter Greg Fox said gurneys are being wheeled toward the building. However, some rescue personnel may be waiting for clearance from authorities that the scene has been secured.

Cameras in downtown Orlando showed authorities closing some streets around the center.

Interstate 4 eastbound has been shut down while police converge on the area. Nearby Edgewater High School has also been locked down.

I was just watching the news live, and it said 8 short, 3 live threatening... didn't mention any confirmed deaths though... at least not on the station I was watching.

I'm not sure where the gun free zone comment came from... considering it isn't one.

The description matched the reporter I was watching to the tee (light blue polo shirt, jeans, white male)... quite the clever alibi he's got there.

Its not ORMC or a hospital at all, its an office building. The patients were mostly taken to ORMC. Maybe you're confused?

They're still wheeling people out on stretchers now on channel 13...

Edit: Mayor Dyer and Chief Demmings just said hes in custody, and he was apprehended at his mothers house without incident. There were reports that a gunshot was heard as his apt but I guess he's still alive. Chief also confirmed one dead at this time.

It sounds like everyone was really helpful with information, even some crime line tips that led to his location.

When passenger of foot heave in sight, tootle the horn. Trumpet him melodiously at first, but if he still obstacles your passage then tootle him with vigor.

It seems like when one nut goes out shooting, all the others follow.

This has actually been studied and there is lots of evidence that there will be many "copycat" incidents after a major incident like the Fort Hood shootings.

When Columbine happened there were several other incidents in the next month or two, these sick bastards see the attention the shooters get and want their share of it...
