  • LAPD HQ: This is art?

    What a waste of $500,000.

Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton says the sculpture looks like "some kind of cow splat." Bratton, who seems personally insulted by the installation, says he first drove past the work and later walked back to see whether "it's as ugly up close as it is when you're driving by." Sounding mad enough to have the artist arrested, he says the answer is yes.

"I don't think anybody can figure out" what the shapes are supposed to be, Bratton says. "Bisons and hippos maybe. I haven't the faintest idea what the two tallest things are on either side." Nor does he understand what any of this has to do with police administration, if anything. "I don't get it," he says. "It's just a shame."
Wow, Bratton got something right. Unreal.

I can't believe the city of Los Angeles doesn't have anything better to spend half a million dollars on.

I thought California was broke...They could have hired some new officers and give the LAPD bulding a new coat of paint...What a waste...Those things look like big turds or a decapitated cow(s) that had their leg cut off...

Back in the old days, that "artist" would've been taking out back and horse whipped for littering the sidewalks with that garbage. Maybe someone should cite him for illegal dumping.

On a side note, the Federal bldg on Temple St has a statue of a guy with a bunch of wind holes through him. My old joke was, "Look leave it to LA to have a memorial to drive-by victims".
God made perfect cops.......The rest he put in cars.

I suppose they make effective barriers against truck bombs.

Ahhhh, yes, the "fun but functional" school of art!

                Still looks like crap, though.

They may call it "art" but I call it target hardening. Those will keep the truck bombs away.

The best part of this is that the "Artist" and I use the term loosely, had to submit plans to a city committee for this crap and they approved it.... someone needs to get fired.

The arteest got high on OPM (other people's money), the most powerful and addictive substance on earth. The city council members were obviously not new to the game either.

No, the artist is former LAPD...think about what comes out of a bison/cow's ***.

His bio ( http://www.lalouver.com/html/shelton_bio/bio.html ) doesn't mention any connection to LAPD, but I suppose he could be a "technical services" reserve. I also note he has received several NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) grants here: http://www.artnet.com/artist/15436/peter-shelton.html (Our tax dollars "at work"!)
