I am not so sure that is a good comparison.

It doesn't matter if the song is not meant to be demeaning to women; the terminology commonly used for women is in itself demeaning. If you praise your "bitch", calling her a bitch is still demeaning.

It sounds like you have issue with a song, but you made a generalization of a whole genre of music. It's just not true as not all hip hop is about women and that that is, is not all demeaning. Do you find the irony of you debating music that you don't listen to nor could your repertoire of understanding be all that extensive.

I don't agree with your opinion, but I respect its straightforwardness in terms of wrongness.

I did not say that all hip-hop songs are demeaning to women. I said that the language used in hip-hop is demeaning.

I don't listen to hip-hop, but I canot escape being exposed to it. I also don't consider it music ("the science or art of incorporating pleasing, expressive, or intelligible combinations of vocal or instrumental tones into a composition having definite structure and continuity").

Oy. You have heard Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie or a host of others in the right context. Nor should you anytime soon

              DAL,

I would argue that "language" encompasses more than a mere couple of words. In addition to the words themselves, one must consider the meaning and the meaning is often defined by the audience. There is an evolution to language and meaning oftentimes must be discerned by the time, place and audience. The language of rap (hiphop, whatever) is not directed toward persons over a certain age or even from a certain demographic necessarily.

About whether it is or isn't music...again, your personal opinion. Many people do find it pleasing and regardless of what you or I think constitutes what, our opinions do not dictate what is or isn't music outside the rhelm of our own little worlds.

He can't even complete any of his words:

"I god bran new dan fo ya."

"Wa me cran it, wa me ro"
"If the police have to come get you, they're bringing an @$$ kicking with them!"

I mean don't get it twisted, He is in no way shape or form anywhere close to jay-z, drake, ross or any one that i would consider amazing, but when "crank dat" came out it was like required knowledge to know the dance , so I give him props for that. But I heard a song of his recently that was hilarious to me called outer space flow, it gets me hyped when i hear it.

I used to get mad when people spouted off nonsense about rap not being music, and how the artists aren't intelligent, because I am a fan of it enough to be able to name many, many, examples of rap artists who are brilliant and their MUSIC comes off as such.

But then I came to the realization that I feel the same way as DAL, only about country.

My question is, you don't like the "music", why do you feel the need to inform us of a rapper being arrested? Would you have started a thread if the lead singer from Styx got arrested?

Yes, I would. I have started threads about athletes and celebrity entertainers who got arrested.

In view of the fact that rap (especially hip-hop) glorifies and encourages the gangster lifestyle and encourages the killing of police officers, and several rap "artists" have been killed by other gangsters, I find it particularly fitting that that rap "artists" are arrested.

I also find it appalling that law-enforcement officers help fund such a genre.
