  • First Chevy returns Caprice, Ford the Taurus... Now Dodge with the Diplomat PICS

Trying to keep up with Chevy and Fords recent return to the police car market, Dodge is buying up all the 1981-89 Dodge Diplomats that they can find to return them to police service.

Bored... couldn't find anything else to do with my time, so I decided to waste yours.

I dunno about you, but I just loved the Cagney & Lacy mobile.

I had to look, I didn't know there was a car called a Diplomat. Did they run on steam or something?

I think the top speed on the CHP's Dodge St. Regises was 85 mph.

The Diplomat was the second worst piece of crap that I drove during my career. The worst was the '83 Chevy Malibu.

We had 2 Diplomats left when I first started. It was like that Aamco commercial where the car is driving down the street and parts are falling from the tranny.

I spent a couple of years in an '88 Diplomat early in my career. What a POS. Of course, that was back during my "wonder years" as a cop. Back then, I would have been happy in a Pinto with a light bar on it, lol.

Here's a nice restored Diplomat courtesy of Copcar.com.

That isn't a car, it is an automobile.

Being a good street cop is like coming to work in a wet suit and peeing in your pants. It's a nice warm feeling, but you're the only one who knows anything has happened.

Worst cop car was the Chevy Celebrity. Best was the Chevy Nova.
