Cocaine!

Hey guys, I'm doing a speech for my communications class tomorrow and I'm talking about an incident that happened when I was in Cuba where 3.1 tons of cocaine was seized. I'm trying to captivate the audience by saying how much 3.1 tons of cocaine is worth. Anyone have any ideas? If I've done the mathematical calculations correctly from one ton at the highest number this one statistic gave, then I'd estimate it to be at $54 million. Thanks guys!

People tend to use the retail value once it is cut. That, of course, grossly overvalues the drug seizure. It is somewhat like valuing a 100,000 barrel shipment of crude oil at the retail price of all the products you can make from it.

Street values depend on location. Even different parts of the same city will have different values. It all depends on supply and demand. Just tell them it was worth millions. It's not like they would know for sure anyway.

we, along with the feds in the area use $100 a gram. as stated above that does grossly overvalue the item. you could buy a kilo of coke right now for anywhere from 21-26K but the street value once its broken down by the gram it 100K.
