  • Using "cocaine" in a song

My partner and I were discussing this and we really couldn't come to a definitive answer..maybe someone on here can help..

In Kid Rock (& Sheryl Crow's) song there is a line something like
"fueling up on whiskey and cocaine"
On several NYC radio stations, they bleep out the word "cocaine"

But the same stations will play Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" in its entirety with nothing bleeped out...

Why would they bleep out the word in one song but allow it to be in another song???

Oh the great mysteries that are pondered on stake outs...

They got their Kid Rock album at Wal-Mart and their Eric Clapton album from a record store.

    Mystery solved.
    I miss you, Dave.

I shot the sheriff but I did not shoot the deputy.

Lil sister don't miss when she aims her gun.

Of course only modern RAP music is violent.

Some get a kick from cocaine
          I'm sure that if
          I took even one sniff
That would bore me terrifically, too
Yet, I get a kick out of you

Shouldn't this thread be in the off-duty section?

            That being said:

            Coulda been the champagne
            The champagne
            Coulda been the cocaine
            The cocaine
Coulda been the way you looked at me
That told me we were through

              The answer is this...

The Kid Rock song has a version readily available in the edited version. Clapton, not.

Late last night about a quarter past four
Ladanyi come knockin' down my hotel room door
                Where's the cocaine--
It's runnin' all 'round my brain

I was talking to my doctor down at the hospital
He said, "Son, it says here you're twenty-seven,

The whole song is pretty much bleeped out on the radio.

The FCC grandfathered the Clapton version.

I listen to mostly rap music, so they come up w/ "clever" names for cocaine and other stuff...

The "B" word (female dog) is another one of those words they censor from time to time, song to song...

That's when it was still legal, and an ingredient in Coke.
