    ...for doing the RIGHT thing?

I have too many to list, but this one left an impression on my somewhat warped mind:

When asked the question "Did you do all the required reading for this course?" on a final exam in college, I answered "NO" and was docked 5 pts. It cost me an 'A+' on the exam.

I've had situations where I THOUGHT I did the right thing & got punished. You know what they say...no good deed goes unpunished.

I stopped last summer to help a broken down motorist. By the time I got back to the store, the manager threw a hissy fit, and sent me home four hours early.

        One instances popped to mind........

When I was in Army basic training, we were prohibited from using any tobacco products. One morning, before PT, I went out on the back stairs and got in a quick, covert smoke. At the time, I didn't realize there was someone on the stairs one floor below me polishing his boots.

Well, he was also a tobacco user who had been caught once before. When we went to formation, I found out that just after I went back inside, a drill sgt. came in, smelled the smoke and fingered him for it. I knew he hadn't been smoking. I went and confessed to my drill sgt.

I did get punished and deserved it. But the punishment was less because I'd done the honest thing.

I was called up to the Chief Inspector a few years back, there had just be an INSPECTION of the station registers by official auditors [Eek!]

Chief Inspector "You went on the train from your home address?"

          Chief "Yes I did"

Chief Insp "But you SHOULD have travelled to the police station where you work, THEN gone on the train from there"

Chief "It was far easier to go from my local rail station up to the training course, I didn't need to go via my police station"

Chief Inspector "You used a rail warrant and obtained a pecuniary advantage by doing this?"

Chief "Yes I suppose I did"

Chief Insp "You hereby receive words of advice for this, now get out of my sight"

          INTERVIEW ENDS

and 'words of advice' in the Metropolitan Police translates to "take a bollicking, never let this happen again"

I may have posted this once before but...
one day on my way home from working graveyard, I decided to take a detour up a local grade. My intention was to see if I could find someplace that would be close to take my boys sledding that day. As I came to a perfect location, I noticed some tire tracks leading off in the snow. I figured, "well, if they can make it, so can I." O.k. so maybe it wasn't all good deed. At any rate, I got stuck. For four hours. When I was finally rescued by a guy in a jeep who had a small wrench. See, the tire shop tightened my valve stem caps on so tightly that I couldn't get them off to air my tires down. I aired down to 6 pounds and drove right out.

Upon returning home, I was greated by my loving wife who apparently had recently become possessed by one of Satan's generals.

When I went to work the next night, less one pound of flesh, I was greeted by a Sgt. who repeatedly accused me of being on the grade with another woman. Subtract one more pound of flesh.

All (or almost all) because I wanted to take my kids sledding.

On a positive note, all's well now. Sgt. even took me to breakfast the other morning. `Course, he was probably looking for pointers for picking up chicks. [Wink]

When I was in Kindergarten, way back before they had 'lectricity and indoor plumbing, I had the teacher from hell. Miss Roberts. She was old and she hated little kids...and she really hated me, something my mom was never quite able to figure, nor was I at five.

Anyway, one day at school, I fell. I was wearing slip on shoes and one of them literally flew off my foot when I fell. Miss Roberts came over to me as I was walking a few feet away and started railing at me for "having my shoes off at school." I had a bruise on my leg the size of Montana, but the only thing she could say was I had violated the rules by taking off my shoe. She sent me to the corner. Another little girl in the class went up to Miss Roberts and told her that I had fallen down and hurt my leg. Only then did she come back, take a look at my leg, and demand to know why I hadn't told her. I just shrugged and told her "because you wouldn't listen anyway." She did apologize. One other time that year she was actually nice to me when I got really sick at school and no one could get hold of my parents to come and get me.

I'm not sure if this was the right thing or not, but I got punished...........

Before I started kindergarten, my dad, knowing I was a scrappy little kid, told me not to hit anyone. So of course, in the first week, when some kid tried picking on me, I did what dad told me and did not hit him......... I bit the little bugger on the forearm.

I thought that was the right thing......... but the teacher warmed my butt, then my dad did too.

P.S.: He thought he listed all possible acts after that as prohibited......... until I poked an older kid in the eyes a la 3 Stooges
