  • Cop on Motor Bike gets Hit while escorting Ambulance.

This was a nasty hit. He was taking to the hospital in the same ambulance that he was escorting.

That is why we DISMOUNT the motor in such situations

should you have a motorcycle escort a ambulance or a patrol car?

The ambulance is an authorized emergency vehicle. It is equipped with more lights and a louder siren than a police motorcycle. Why is it being escorted? Foolish!!! Hope everything turns out for the best.

I would never escort an ambulance under lights and siren.
Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence!

We've cleared intersections before but in no way actually escorting an ambulance or firetruck from the front..
Would we want to be escorted to a call?

I don't escort something that can escort itself. After the lead vehicle goes through the intersection, people just go without looking.

If there were a dying child or another officer in the bus, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I rode Motors for about eight years. As has been noted, Fire engines, ambulances, all are emergency vehicles. They light up better than motorcycles, the sirens, often multiple, are louder than the motorcycle siren. The crews of the fire engine and ambulance are better protected in a collision than the motor cycle Officer. I wish our colleague a speedy and full recovery, but unfortunately, there was no need for this accident to have occurred.
