how to reply to someone when they ask you....

Here is an opinion that someone posted to me on another forum. After I explained that I would arrest someone for smoking marijuana.

"Stop wasting the courts time, and jail space. Smoking MJ hurts no one. Do your job and arrest thieves, rapists and violent criminals. The job of a LEO is to make it safe for citizens. How is arresting a 18 year old for smoking pot making my world any safer? I respect the tough job you do. Just do it and stop letting those who make stupid laws waste your time and my tax dollars."

Now, I've heard this opinion before, but never put much thought into why I would do it other than it's illegal. What are your thoughts?

Because it's the law, the police enforce the law, they don't make the law. If you want the law changed, take it up with your local politicians.
