Seattle PD can't win. Part12

I'm not sure if all of the Seattle PD incidents have been getting national attention. This is the latest.



During a radio interview with a local Pastor, the pastor suggested that the tires should have been shot out. When asked if he had ever tried to hit the tires of a moving vehicle, the pastor replied that he had not, but all cops should be able to! (Wouldn't you folks love to spend the additional weeks on the practice range )
Is this an example of the availability of Less Than Leathal tool/tactics creating unsafe expectations by the communities?

Shoot out the tires? Yeah, right.

When I was stationed at FT Riley, KS in the early 80's, an incident happened at a pawn shop in Ogden, KS(right outside the east gate). This one dirtbag was trying to pawn a hot gun, while his cohorts waited for him outside in the car. It was about that time a Riley County, KS police officer happened in the pawn shop for a routine check. As the PD officer was getting out of his car, the guys waiting also realized their friend was taking too long, and panicked, They opened fire on the RCPD officer, mortally wounding him. As the officer went down, he returned fire, and being an expert shot, nearly blew the right front tire right off the rim of the suspect's car. RCPD units, both responding to a call from the pawn shop owner(a former MP, who had the remaining dirtbag at gunpoint), and from the officer who was hit, they were on to the suspect vehicle in no time. A high speed chase ensued, covering nearly 40 miles, before the suspect car was forced into the ditch. ON A FLAT TIRE!!!

Isn't it funny how people get flippiant when they think you are trying to tell them how to do their jobs, but anyone can tell a cop how to do his/her job?

Sounds like your troops need to get together and fight this chief. Go public with a vote of no confidence. Go public with whatever you can (without breaking department policy.)

Get yourselves a good labor attorney (yeah, I know that is an oxymoron) and just nitpick the crap out of him for every little thing that he does that is not 100% legal in the way of labor stuff.

Al Sharpton won't be there any time soon. he's still in jail, and I think Jesse Jackson is too busy trying to cover up his extra marital affairs.

This just seems to be another step further in a very disturbing trend in this country.

Every time a police officer shoots a black suspect, no matter how justifiable, it becomes a race issue. We as a country should face some very real, if unpopular, facts...

1. Black suspects account for a disproportionate amount of crimes in this country. This is true in my jurisdiction as well as many others. This is not a racist statement. This is not a statement that all or most blacks are criminals. This is merely a statememt made based on first hand observations over the past 10 years as a LEO.

2. Deadly force scenarios inevitably happen suddenly and without much time for weighing multiple alternatives.

3. So called "community leaders" are generally more interested in stirring the pot and getting their names in the papers than actually solving any problems.

4. The average minister, community leader, or civil rights activist doesn't understand SQUAT about the dynamics of deadly force encounters. Lets see how they feel when THEY'RE the ones being dragged down the street by a wanted fugitive with a lengthy criminal history.

5. The majority of "protesters" seen on news footage in Cincinatti, L.A., and other high profile incidents appear to be nothing more than common street criminals looking for an excuse to commit crimes unchecked. "I'm outraged at the social injustice in this country so I think I'll steal a TV."

I know that some of these statements are probably unpopular. But these are my opinions and I'm entitled to them. My .02 worth!

Well GA, often the truth hurts, and will not be recognized by those who most need to recognize it. I can't believe there is any officer, working anywhere in this country, no matter what thier race is, that would disagree with you, if they are willing to face the facts and are honest with themselves.

Sounds to me like it is time to look for a different department. Every one of them will have some type of problem, but I know that I certainly would not put up with the type of crap you are talking about!

Outstanding to hear another bleeding heart administrator tell us how to do our job. Ask him when the last time he was confronted by a 300 pound parolee hopped up on speed who "was never going back." God forbid we actually use the force necessary to protect ourselves...

I am a deputy sheriff currently assigned to the jails. Our division captain officially stated that he no longer wants us punching inmates when they attack us. Rather, we should "dog pile" him and then handcuff him when we are attacked. What a great concept. Every single use of force goes to internal investigations, no matter how small...even pepper spray!

In CA here, we deal with tons of high level gang members who are facing three strikes convictions. They know they are going to prison for life and have nothing to lose by attacking a deputy. In fact, they will only gain status by going to prison with the reputatation of assaulting staff.

I only wish we had administrators like our last captain. If a deputy and an inmate were involved in a fight, he would only ask one question:
"What hospital did they take that a**hole to?"

I just wanted to know when the voting for the "Voice of the Black Americans" was held. Apparently, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton tied for first place.

The things posted about blacks are unfortunatly true. I myself have had unpleasant encounters with them. One of the reasons I frequent this board and others, is I like to see what police actually think and feel about things, and I like to kid around with people who enjoy that sort of thing.

With that in mind, I have logged on to some forums comprised mostly of black people and found out that a lot of blacks do not like whitey, and they especially do not like whitey if he comes with a badge. There is a lot of lawsuit talk, there is talk like blacks shot by police are always victims, and I saw one post on blackplanet.com where the poster claimed he was going to kill a white person soon.

Also in the area I live in, there is a radio talk show that is always talking about 'sensitive issues, and I regularly listen to it. The host of this show is named Tom Kamb and is an ex-police officer. I have noticed that whenever he talks about an incident involving blacks in a negitive manner, almost every black caller to the show disregards the facts of the incident and speaks only about emotion or slavery or police brutality, and most all callers of other races speak to the facts.

On another front,
Some of the other shows on this radio station are hosted by idiot talking heads though. The morning show is called the Jay and Hilarie show, and their last topic was about the recent police shooting of a homeowner in McKinney Texas, where a female police officer unintentionally fired her glock and killed the homeowner.

As I listend to their drivel they started calling the Glock 22 an automatic weapon and talking about how the police should hold the weapon, and wanting to know what we, the listeners thought. Was this shooting an acident? I called in and told them that the Glock pistol was not an automatic weapon, it is a semi automatic weapon and that there is a big difference betwwen the two. Then I told them that in my opinion, the shooting was an accident and I hung up. Then Jay starts saying "How could it be an accident." I tried to call back but I couldn't get through. I wanted to ask this talking head how it could not be an accident! Did the police officer go to this home where she had never been and murder this homeowner? Hell no! I can't stand them.
