  • Durham NC...you might get our JCPD Chief!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Jefferson County Police Chief William Carcara could be heading to Durham, N.C., after all.

Carcara was the runner-up for the chief's job in that city, but NewsChannel 32 has learned that the man who beat out Carcara for the position resigned late Wednesday.

Durham city leaders had chosen retired Kansas City, Mo., Deputy Police Chief Greg Watkins for the position.

It's not clear if the job will now be offered to Carcara. A Jefferson County police spokesman said Carcara could not comment on the issue because he had not heard from Durham officials.

According to a press release, Durham's city manager will hold a news conference Thursday to announce plans to permanently fill the position.

Carcara has said he was searching for a job because he believes he'll lose his current position when a new administration takes over in the new merged government in January.
