I think I posted this on another thread a while back when the news caught wind of this new show he's in. During "Katrina" he and his posse of JPSO SWAT rolled up in the Qtr, where Anderson Cooper was standing, got out, did his almighty Kung-Fu bow, went into a bar, said a few words, left...Bartender turns the regulation dartboard around and whos picture is up to be nailed with Darts..oh yes Segal himself! Classic.

He's been doing this for yrs, since he was a fan/friend of the infamous Harry Lee. But what has he actually done for the area...? Pulling a Brad Pitt perhaps?

What kind of credentials does Ted Nugent hold? Is he a special or an actual sworn deputy?

Five minute with him preaching his Zen crap to me and I would confess to any crime he wanted. So he might be effective.

Does their public information officer have a SAG card?
Err we weren't on speeders, atleast I don't believe so. The traffic division is so undermanned all they can do is respond to accidents

Segal has been a deputy chief with us since the 80's, basically he was a big fan of Sheriff Harry Lee and Lee made him a deputy chief. He's a good guy, but like I said he's pretty much useless. My opinion on the show is that hopefully it will be some more good PR for our department, however I just can't see this show being nothing more than "look there's steven segal!".

Oh man, I love Seagal, from his great one-liners like this one, to his impeccable martial arts skills, or to his unreal character names in movies like these:
            -Nico Toscani
            -Mason Storm
            -Casey Ryback
            -Forrest Taft
            -Jack Taggart
            -Wesley McClaren
            -Orin Boyd
            -Sasha Petrosevitch
            or my favorite, Gino Felino.

Although if he happens to get in a situation where he has to use his sidearm, he should be fine, he can take down a helicopter with it (here).

He's a fat slob now, obviously no PAT requirement for that has been.

Speaking of honorary deputies I met Jay Leno at the NASCAR Finale in Homestead-Miami Speedway in 1999. I was working the race in the infield and my job was to escort Leno around. He was VERY down to Earth, ate hotdogs like crazy, talked about all the cool cars he has and showed me his Metro Las Vegas police bagde and ID.

                    The difference...
                    Ted is:
                    Quietly doing what he does,
A LEGAL GUN OWNER (not as quiet but legal)
Never has had any DV crap against him
                    respectfully does his own work

                    Steve is:
                    Full of himself
                    a women beater
A copy cat of Bruce lee

Leno has always been known for being down to earth, and Very personable. HE is really doing what he loves (with te cars) and is lucky enoungh to have a job that lets him afford to do.

He is still married to his high school sweetheart, If I'm not mistaken.

Sorry, but he's still got no business carrying and waiving that badge around unless he's a trained and professional LEO. The chief who gave it to him demeans it, no matter how "down to earth" Leno is.

Maybe it's just me, but the "Retired" badge I carry was something I earned after many years of service. It and the badges I carried when I was a peace officer were symbols of trust and responsibility, not party favors handed out because I had a TV show.

Maybe the sheriff should have thought about these kind of things more before he handed out that badge?

One of the things that hurts well screened, trained and professional reserve officers most, are these kind of "special" appointments! I'm sure Maricopa County has some very good people who volunteer their services with the Sheriff's Department. If they went through the testing, academy and field training I went through as a reserve officer here in So. CA, they were probably disgusted to see someone get that badge simply because he's a good basketball player and a nice guy. This isn't to imply that he couldn't be recognized for being involved in community activities, but a badge???

I agree that it demeans any officer that has the badge, and the department.
I am against the handout badges and the PR crap that it creates.

If they want the badge, get it like everyone else.
