  • Gas Prices

It looks like gas prices are going down. It is because the bad refineries in Texas are putting out gasoline and not heating oil for the North. Here is the story. I know AlGore trashed Houston during the last election. I would still pit our air against L.A. ANYDAY! By NELSON ANTOSH

The worst of the gasoline price spike appears to be over in Houston as refiners have begun churning out enough gasoline to meet demand.

Wholesale prices already have dropped and prices at the pump are expected to trend slowly downward through the summer.

A handful of stations in Houston have cut prices by 10 to 15 cents per gallon in the last few days. Signs spotted Friday included a Racetrac at $1.459, a pair of Exxons at $1.439 and $1.419, and Albertson's supermarkets offering regular at $1.399.

In Calif. we are still at 1.99-2.17, maybe I should move to Houston. My ex-daughter in law owns a station, Calif. taxes are .45 per gal. We do not have a shortage, just summer time. Where the taxes go, I do not know, because roads still have pot holes and whatever else that can go wrong.

I was just down in Houston this past week, and their gas prices were lower than ours up here in north Texas. So i'm not sure why it's said that Houston has the worst prices.

I was trying to say that they say the air is the worst in Texas not the price. We refine 2/3 of the gas for the country so I don't think anyone should be complaining about the air in Houston if they are enjoying the results. The air near the refineries is not that good and I hope they keep trying to improve it. I live about 50 miles from the refineries and the wind doesn't blow this way that much as I am northwest of them. As far as the prices in other countries how much of the 2.95 is tax? I know that Al Gore, says in his book Earth in the Balance, 1993, p. 173 "$5.00/gallon is better!" But he screamed when prices started going up. I guess it is better only if taxes increase the price to $5.00.

During my recent visit to England, "petrol" was around 80 pence/litre. Assuming 3.78 litres per US gallon, and an exchange rate of US$1.47 per Pound Sterling (as per my last credit card statement), that works out to a whopping US$4.45 per gallon!!

The Ford Focus that I had rented cost over US$50 to fill up from empty It's a good thing it got 36 MPG! With prices like those, I was actually glad to see $2.05 at the pump immediately after landing at LAX!

Northern Protector: If you apply the current exchange rate of CDN$1 = US$0.65, you'll find you're paying about US$1.92/gallon, the average here in LA. When was the last time you as a Canadian paid the same (or even less) for something than an American?

That means our gas is $2.94 a gallon here in Canada then.

Oops! That would be $1.91 in US funds. Not that bad I guess.

The previous amount was in Canadian cash.
