  • Some advice, please...

Ok, here's the deal: June 27th I will be leaving for Tennessee for some much needed R&R (going to miss ya's!). While I'm there, I'm supposed to meet up with a few people I yap with here at the Officer.com chat room (one whom I'm very excited about meeting).

I've met people from online before. In fact, I dated someone for over a year that I met online. We're good friends and stay in touch, even though we don't date anymore.

Even though I like to think I'm pretty safety conscious, any advice would be appreciated. I'll be far away from home, and that thought makes me a little nervous.

I've met dozens of people before, (most were local and from the hockey forum I belong to) and I do have certain rules about meeting someone from online (the biggest being that we meet in a very public place, and after meeting, they leave before me so I can know what kind of car or truck they're driving. Ok, so call me parnoid!).

Any other tips you'd like to throw in? Much appreciated.

    Kateykakes,
You are paranoid. OK, there I said it.

    Just kidding.

Paranoia is just another way for the body to protect itself. I don't know you and you don't know me. I could be anybody. I may not be who I tell the other members of this forum that I am.

It is not silly to be careful. It is a good idea to have a plan like the one you mentioned. For all I know, you might be meeting Mac90, for goodness sake.

    Have fun

Public meeting place is good. Have a friend know where you are and a set time for you to call , or recieve a call on a cell phone say 10 minutes into the meeting to let them know if you are ok or to make an excuse to bail if it does not seem right. Pay attention to those little hairs on the back of your neck when they tell you something is not right listen to them.
      Boo! Scared ya did'nt I

Buy some pepper spray and keep it in your purse or on your person where you have easy access to it...just in case.

Thank you, Jellybean!!! I'm looking forward to getting away.

Soon as I hear something about the Fez, I'll drop you a line (I'll probably call the station after I get offline). Be nice to see you there. I'm looking forward to some great tunes this year. Hoping for a great lineup (hoping Staind will be part of the Fez this year).
