RNC Welcoming Committee Anarchists Busted - Buckets of Urine, Slingshots, Anti-bus Weapons Seized

Ramsey County sheriff’s deputies found weapons and devices to disable buses among other items in searches in the Twin Cities last night and today. Authorities said the items came from “key members of the RNC Welcoming Committee,” a self-described anarchist group.

Five people have been arrested and four properties have been searched, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The ‘Welcoming Committee’ is a criminal enterprise made up of 35 anarchists who are intent on committing before and during the Republican National Convention,” said Sheriff Bob Fletcher in a statement. “These acts include tactics to blockade and disable delegate buses, breaching venue security and injuring police officers. They have recruited assistance in their criminal conspiracy from other anarchists groups throughout the country. Through their plans and actions they have exhibited a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of others.”
    • The statement said the items found in the searches included: Materials to create “sleeping dragons” (PVC pipe, chicken wire, duct tape), which is when protesters lock themselves together * Large amounts of urine, including three to five gallon buckets of urin * A machete, hatchet and several throwing knives * a gas mask and filter * Empty glass bottles * Rags * Flammable liquids * Homemade caltrops (devises used to disable buses in roads)Metal pipes * Axes * Bolt cutters * Sledge hammers * Rapelling equipment * Kryptonite locks * Empty plastic buckets cut and made into shields * Material for protective padding * An Army helmet.

How could that be? This is what the anarchists said in a press release:

Assitant Police Chief Bostrom has talked about the St. Paul Standard, and on the anniversary of last years’ critical mass police riot, we saw its true face. The ramsey county sheriff’s dept and the SPPD raided the RNC convergence space and detained over 50 people in an attempt to preempt planned protests of the rnc on Monday.

Looking for items found in any twin cities house like jars, paint, and rags, this attempt to portray us as criminals and destroy our credibility has already backfired as evidenced by the masses who have come to support us.

We are now accused of a simple fire code violation -which is outside the scope of the sheriffs department and clearly not justified provocation for a forceful raid with guns being drawn. Children and elderly people were inside the convergence center when the police violently busted down the doors. The police may claim that the raid was executed according to protocol - however, the violence inherent in this action may only be a hint of the violence to be expected on Monday and beyond, and is only a hint at the violence perpetrated daily by the police.

The convergence center is simply a gathering place and is not used for illegal actions - it is a place for workshops and trainings. Tonight we were watching films and sharing food.

This action will not deter us from our plans to protest the RNC on September 1st. We want to invite all people who oppose this police oppression to join us on Septemeber 1st. See you in the streets.

Terrorists. Treat them exactly as if they were al Quaidans, which they are probably supporting.

In some places (although I don't know about the law in Minnesota), a fire code violation could be part of the duties of a sheriff's department. I suppose that the state code would specify it somewhere. Maybe a deputy sheriff could take enforcement action if there were a relevant local ordinance? What about "exigent circumstances" if there were a potential threat to neighbors or other tenants?

Anyway, nice to see that it was a "pre-emptive" action rather than a necessary use of force to prevent or stop violent action by the anarchists.

P.S. If enough anarchists unite, doesn't that mean that they have "sold out" because they would then be part of an organized group?

Don't comment about things you don’t understand. Anarchy has nothing to do with the rejection of groups or absurd adolescent concerns of selling out or rebellion.

The group was awfully light yesterday only 10,000 protesters instead of 50,000, maybe the pre-emptive action worked? 283 people were arrested 129 were felonies, 51 GMisd, and 103 Misd. I say good work on the part of the Police!

Anarchy has to do with what then? Not that I care, particularly.

Not that you could make an intellectual argument for it, anyway.

Actually most Guantanamo detainees haven’t been charged with any crime so in fact it is the ones delivering random people to Guantanamo that are the “terrorists”.

Anyway SCSU10 I’m surprised you would be opposed to people protesting, utilizing their American rights. I have found most police are very fond of parading all the rights of Americans and the police and military personnel who apparently gave it to them
