  • how do you feel about stringers?

there is this new show and tv called "Stringers LA" i like the show but i could see it be very irritating to LEOs. i understand the media has the "right" to a story but these guys are basically getting right next to LE during a shootout. one guy was filming a high speed chase, parked his car next to the curb and the suspect that was fleeing slammed into the stringers car, that is how close these guys get. i see it not only has a hazard to the stringer but also to LEO having to focus on a call and making sure this stringer doesn't get in the way or gets hurt. anyways was just wondering what your views were.

Saw that show... makes for good TV but I hate media as those people will do anything for a good shot - including getting in my way. Get a real job!

They have their 'right' to get the story......but dont expect one iota of sympathy when their stupidity gets them hurt or killed......

Hah, I saw myself on that show! Luckily I dvr'd it. I was standing on a corner with my thumb up my butt, but I was on TV!

Anywhoo, I do not like that a ton of these guys drive old CVPIs and have them equipped with amber lights etc so they blend into the chaos more. They are making a buck, let them. They are better than the papar***i scum that litter the sidewalks and streets of LA. Though if I see one breaking vehicle code and am able to do something they will get a ticket. I have not had trouble with them. In fact NEVER even noticed the one who apparently was filming me one night.

Gotta remember that for every run of the mill police story that was shot, perp walk, crash, fire, robbery, most of these are everyday news. Then once, they get the child molester getting the crap kicked out of them by the parents of the victim. BANG they done got a national story.
Like the one post says if they stay out of the way who cares. If they get shot by being too close, that's on them. If they stay behind the tape who cares what they do.
If you don't have tape up but tell them stay behind the pole or that tree and they do, they are a non entity. I think the show is sensationalized . I did like when he provided the tape to the police for investigation purposes.

I always thought it would be a pretty cool job. I try to be nice to them, but they can be a serious annoyance.

It's hard enough to get a witness to tell you anything and a white guy holding a huge camera with a 2 million candle power light on you in the hood doesn't help a lot.
