As I watch the continuing news coverage of Omaha Ofc. Paul Latschar's recovery, I feel compelled to say a couple of things to the LEO community.
1. THANK YOU!!! I know none of you hear that enough. Your efforts are appreciated by most.
2. There are still some decent people out in this world. A civilian came to Ofc. Latschar's aid at a risk to his own personal safety. He stayed with the officer as his partner was in pursuit of the suspect.
3. PLEASE make sure you wear your vests!!! Preliminary reports said that At least one round struck Ofc. Latschar's vest, preventing any more serious injuries. The main injury was a round in the lower abdomen/upper pelvic area that hit the iliac artery. Most typical vests do not cover this area.
4. One from the families...COME HOME! Do everything you can to come home at the end of your shift.
I know that some of these things are common sense, but I feel that they need restated from time to time. Now go out there and have a good day!
