  • I'm going to be honset with you!

"I'M GOING TO BE HONEST WITH YOU" Maybe I have too much time on my hands, or maybe I just let little things bother me to often. But, does this comment, or similar comments, bother anybody else? When I hear it I cringe! First of all, if I am talking to somebody, I more than likely have not developed a reason to believe they are lying to me. When you throw in a disclaimer, ie.. "I'm going to be honest", I now have reason to doubt the fullness of your comments. In other words, I translate "I am going to be honest with you" as "Pay attention, because I am about to feed you a crock of bu!!$hit!! Second, telling the truth is normal!! You should be telling the truth anyway. So, "I'm going to tell you the truth", at any point during the conversation, completely ruins your credibility.

The other comment that makes me want to cry is "I'm a grown A $$ man". This one is typically followed by "you cant talk to me like that" or " I don't have to take that $h!t. What does this mean?? Do you love men's butts?? If you are a "grown A $$ man", there are better ways of stating it. How about "I'm an adult" or "I'm not a child". Finally, if you talk like this, do not act surprised at the negative response that it produces. It is your fault. I often express that immigrants should speak English, but maybe we should concentrate on these people first.

Trying, in good conscience, to avoid the autocensor: words such as grownass hardass bigass toughass strongass meanass oldass, cheapass, stupidass are using the assword suffix to emphasize such terms as grown hard big tough strong mean old cheap stupid. It basically means "all the way to the rump". I don't find such ghettoass expressions offensive.

I'm going to be honest with you, I'm not going to sugarcoat this for you, and let me be frank, are acknowledgements that you've probably encountered dishonesty, sugarcoating, and euphemistic formulations. They are not necessarily to be interpreted as meaning the opposite of what they assert.

There are many comments that bother me. One thing that has always jerked my chain is the following.

You're driving along and see someone walking down the street at night in a dark area. You then turn on your spotlight and shine it on the person to get a better look. One of two things will happen, and I hate both equially.

One, they'll keep walking as if they're trying to act like they are unaware of the sudden illumination. Oh my mistake you kind pedestrian thug. I know you're totally unaware that you can now see my car, your surroundings, and the bright freakin light that magically continues to shine on you and only you as you walk down the street.

Two, they'll turn around and say "Why the f--- you be shinin that light on me?" Umm...big mystery here - maybe because it's dark outside and I'm trying to see!!? I mean DUH!

I'd like to add the following -

              "I don't play"

              "I don't play around"

              "I'm straight"

"I'm gonna be straight wit you" and yes I spelled it that way on purpose

              "I'm bein' straight wit you"

              "Officer we cool"

              "I ain't playin no games"

"On my momma that's the truth"

"On my momma _______" insert anything stupid there

You know, honestly , I use the word honestly in real, truthful conversations, lol. For example I may say, "Honestly, I really hate washing cars." Honestly, It doesn't always mean someone is lying. Yes, I know it's used to preface a lie quite often. I also know that if someone crosses their arms when you're talking to them it doesn't mean they are disinterested or put out with you or what you're saying. I am an arm crosser in the casual world, but I'm quite the listener. I'm only throwing this out there so no one will believe that "honestly" always equals "big fat lie."

So what is it about the first response that upsets you so? Or do you just not like anyone walking at night in a "dark" area?

Actually, I can sympathize with the second response as well. I have pretty much given the same response, except not quite so vulgar. I have always been prone to feeling restless late at night and decide to go for a walk to the store, the 24 hour variety. Not to buy crack, not to break into cars, but to buy a snack or drink. Its not illegal. So yes, when I get followed by a unit at walking pace with the spotlight glaring on me, I get a little testy. Stop me and question me fine, but get to it already.

I think what he meant was the subject's reaction to the light afterwards which doesn't fit with the common reaction of most folks getting hit with a 3 million candle lit spot light from the cruiser and just proceeds to walk on like it was nothing......

                          maybe I'm wrong.

Whenever someone says "I'm being straight witchoo," or, "I ain't gonna lie," they're lying. Guaranteed. 100% fibbing.

How about: "I wasn't diving, I was just going to the store" as stated by everyone that has a suspended drivers license.

Where else would they be going? Work? I think not.
