  • Disneyland and CCW update

Hello everyone, I just wanted to give you some updated info if you were wondering about trying to bring your duty weapon into Disneyland.

A couple days ago I went to the original Disneyland, in Anaheim California and spent a couple days there.

First off, I left my duty weapon at home because I read on this site that I couldn't bring it in, and that it was prohibited. I also read some have managed to get their weapon inside the park, but I didn't wanna be held liable by the park if some situation did happen and one of my rounds hit the wrong person.

Anyway...to cut to the chase, when I approached the entrance to Disneyland I saw no signs stating that LEO couldn't bring in a CCW.

But there are several people who ask you to open your bags as you enter, to show what you have inside.

I actually brought my CCW fanny pack with me, but I only had my cuffs, badge and police ID inside.

One worker saw the cuffs and badge and asked me if I had my CCW, but I told him no and that was it.

I saw no metal detectors anywhere and no one with a metal detecting wand.

Having said that, once in the park I did feel very safe.

However, there was once incident that happened at a walkway near the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

This area is really deep inside the park and there were tons of people milling around, I'd say it was around 2pm.

Anyway, I saw one of the Disney employees wearing a cartoon outfit (I can't remember the character) and he was locked in some kind of wrestling hold with a parkgoer. The parkgoer was a big guy, around 6' to 6' 2" and about 220 - 230 lbs.

When I was walking toward these guys it caught my eye right away, because it just didn't look right.

The two had their arms locked against each other and looked like they were pushing forward into each other and eventually the large parkgoer released his grip and said something to the effect of "Peace. Fair is fair." or something like that and then walked away. Either way it was odd, and my wife said the same.

During this apparent confrontation, I saw ZERO security people around...and had this thing erupted into a true physical altercation I wonder where the security would have come from.

I myself, was unarmed and could have really done nothing to stop the altercation other than to be a good witness.

Rewinding back to the park entrance, I did see one security person in a marked "Security" vehicle parked in the parking lot fronting South Harbor Blvd, the main entrance to Disneyland with one person inside watching as we all filed in.

I also spotted some Anaheim Police squad cars deeper in the park, in the background.

And I think I saw at least 2 plainclothes LEO or security staff. One was by the main entrance and another was further in by the Mickey Mouse/Walt Disney statue. I'm sure there are a lot more.

Either way, it was not a good feeling being unarmed for about a week. It was the first time since I became a LEO.

Anyway, I hope this Disneyland update helps!

Another update, Disneyland also sells alcoholic drinks inside the park at certain outdoor stands.

    Just FYI.

The "characters" at Disneyland are always accompanied by "escorts" so I suspect it was part of the act.

If it was for real, they would have been intervening, or calling for security.

It didn't look like an act to me. And yes you are right the characters usually have escorts, though at that time I don't recall seeing any around.

Seriously, if you had been there I don't think you would have thought it was an act.

They big guy looked like he might have had a few, his face was flushed.

Not sure from the exertion or from intoxicants.

          Maybe he was the escort.

Selling alchohol must be new. They used to not sell any alchohol at all (except for a private club in New Orleans Square).

            I was surprised too.

It was only at very select areas where you could buy alcohol.

and yes, why can't the characters and their escorts just get along?

that's odd. down here, at disneyWORLD, they've had alcohol for as long as i can remember. in fact, at EPCOT, the locals have a tradition called "around the world" any Otown locals'll know what i'm talking about

as far as packin, i always a simple rule of thumb - if i wasn't supposed to be carrying, here, wouldn't there be a metal detector?

Perhaps they were fighting over whose turn it was to wear the costume.

At Disney WORLD Fl The Magic Kingdom is dry, no alcohol. Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood studios are not, you can buy alcohol in those three parks.

I sware my dad has had a beer or two at Magic Kingdom. But in here at Disneyworld FL man, you can buy alcohol in nearly every restaurant and in a ton I mean a TON of places. As for CCW's I bet I could find a way to sneak a gun in, 5.11 tactical FTW!

Maybe the guy was just dressed up? Seems to be the thing to do these days.

I always thought it was kinda funny to watch the "characters" work their way through the park with their "handlers" in tow. You would think they were Secret Service the way they act.

I take my son every year, but we go in the spring or fall to avoid the crowds and the summer heat.

As a rule of thumb, any private property who bans weapons also includes CCW holders & LEOs. Obviously LEOs on official business are an exception.

I'm not sure where you are going with this thread. I've been to Disneyworld 3-4 times in the last two years and I do not believe it is an unsafe environment at all.

I don't mean to do anything with this thread except to provide an update on what people might expect, especially LEO, at Disneyland Anaheim.

                            That's all.

Don't take this the wrong way, but why do you feel you have no other options if you are not armed? If Mickey was getting a beat down, would you still feel that you were unable to act?
