  • Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement book by Kevin Gilmartin

This is a great book for spouses to read. I read it and it was a little slow in the beginning. My wife read it and it helped her to understand the Law Enforcement mentality a little better. Give it a try guys! Anyone else read it? What did you think?

Scotch. Single malt. Neat. Preferably from the Islay region. The more peat, the better...

I'm kind of amazed that all the crap the past 6 months hasn't gotten me back drinking....

A drink in moderation, even if it's one or 2 after a shift I see nothing wrong with. Everyone has a vice. Whether it be alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, gambling, women (or whatever you prefer as a sex toy), or my favorite, sugary baked or fried goods. After a stressful shift, I wind down with bourbon and cinnamon roll. It is what it is. We see and deal with society doesn't want too and people would not believe. Do what you have to in order to make it thru.

My wife just couldn't understand why I did some of the things that I thought was normal. After reading this book it helped our marriage out quiet a bit. She understands why I try not to sit with my back to people and why I watch our six so much. Also why I do not trust as much as the average person.

It's a great book! Highly recommend it. And having been a LEO wife for many years now, I've seen so much of what Gilmartin addresses...the man knows his subject matter very well, that's for sure.

I read it before the Academy and my family read it while I was in it. My parents mostly saw it as a harbinger of doom, my girlfriend found it insightful.
