So my wife, who has suffered horribly and has had an ongoing migraine for the past 6 years because of TMJ, is off to have a crazy surgery to have her jaws cut apart and put back together today. We'll be in the hospital for a few days, and I'm off the next few weeks to take care of her. Wish her luck! Although, I keep telling her that I'm going to puree a big mac and fries for her sometime... so not sure if she needs luck for the surgery or for me taking care of her.

My wife to be suffers from TMJ as well. I would like both you and your wife to know that our thoughts and prayers are with the both of you.
P.S. - That pureeing the Big Mac and fries isn't a bad idea. I might have to pirate that from you when my wife inevitably has the same surgery."To know that you know what you know and that you do not know what you do not know; that is true knowledge." - Unknown

Indeed, TMJ is one of those things that few know about and even fewer know its pain. StudChris' wife knows all too well, as I'm sure does he, about what problems it can cause with one's life. What pain!"To know that you know what you know and that you do not know what you do not know; that is true knowledge." - Unknown

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Surgery went well. Right now I'm sitting next to her on my Apple, watching football while she's totally out of it on morphine in the hospital. I only got a few hours of sleep last night, and will probably get about the same tonight, but I'm glad at least the surgery part is over.

Thoughts and prayers..
Glad surgery went well...hopefully this will rid her of the pain she had to endure for the past six years.
PS: May I suggest that you also eat your BigMac and fries puree'd.This profession is not for people looking for positive reinforcement from the public. Very often it can be a thankless job and you can't desire accolades, because those are not usually forthcoming. Just do your job to the best of your ability and live with the decisions you've made.

Well I'm not exactly going on the same liquid diet as she is (minus the smoothies, will be replacing a lot of meals with smoothies), but I did tell her that since I'm off of work anyway, and she has to suffer, I will suffer with her and eat extremely healthy. Last week we did have an amazing week with all of our favorite restaurants for a last hoorah.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers again. Monday is coming up on 2 weeks post-op and things are going perfectly. She's documented the whole process on her blogspot blog, so I'm going to add that to this in case anyone who said they have family with the same problem (or similar problems) is interested. http://orthognathicstory.blogspot.com/
