  • 12 Unpaid Tickets and I didnt go to court for them!

About 5 years ago I started recieving No seat belt tickets in the state of Louisiana. I was 16 on my first ticket, I am 20 now. Being that I did not pay them and I did not go to court for them . I was wondering if I had a warrant out for my arrest ? If so does it look better to turn yourself in for the warrants? Or what should I do? I did not realize I didnt pay them until just recently. I know it was wrong not to pay them. I will gladly turn myself in if thats what it comes to. Instead of having to be handled roughly by the police. I do know that my license is also suspended. So please help me and tell me how to resolve this matter, and where to turn myself in at if need be.

The reason I said Roughly by the police... is the fact that I am disabled and cant do most things that fully abled people can... My hand cant go behind my head or straight up in the air for that fact. If I was taken in by the police, I wouldnt want to have anything that the doctors already fixed messed up again... My life is hard enough just living with a disablity... Let alone a memory problem.

I am turning myself in on Monday. In order to take care of this as soon as possible. I am hoping to get out quickly but that happening is probably HIGHLY UNLIKELY... but that is fine... as long as I get this taken care of. I will be fine. Thank you for answers and I really appreciate you all taking your time to answer my question thank you very much.

Well it is done. I am back out and I am free once again... I was in for a week and managed to stay out of trouble. The judge was upset about the 12 missed court dates and unpaid tickets so he did send me back to jail for a few more days so that I could learn a lesson from all of this. I will never miss another court date... I did learn that, and the tickets I get I will pay them as soon as I get them. Instead of forgetting them.

HOW could you possibly get A ticket, much less 12 & think you didn't have to take care of them?!?! I don't know why you've suddenly developed a conscience, but you need to go to your local PD or Sheriff & turn yourself in & explain the situation. If the tickets were from different agencies you need to look at each one & see what Court you were cited into but overall the easiest way to tend to this is simply go to the nearest police station.

That's funny. You didn't realize that you didn't pay 12 TICKETS???

You need to pay a visit to the clerk of the county courts (the court house), and they'll tell you how much you owe and what your next step should be. Until you take that step, you're fooling no one.

So, what makes you think you will be handled roughly by the police? 99 percent of the arrests I make all go quietly and calmly. Do you still live in Louisiana? If so turn yourself in to the jurisdiction you recieved the tickets. Wouldn't you have realized you didn't pay your tickets when .....you didn't pay them.

20 years total life experience and already you forgot about 12 seperate tickets you ddn't pay in just the last 4 years? You knew, you just decided to ignore them. That "I forgot" stuff don't work much past 2nd grade in the real world (better to claim the dog ate your tickets ... 'cause we all do like dogs).

Probably no warrants, probably do have 12 unpaid fines or civil penalties to pay, likely with compounded interest at a set amount. Likely you are suspended, maybe they'll charge you multiple reinstatement fees or maybe just one when you get all your arrears taken care of.

Maybe they'll catch you driving suspended on the way to turn yourself in and save you the added mental stress of finding the place when you forget where it was you was going?

          One can only hope.

          Take care ......

Around here you'd have 12 warrants and probably just as many open suspensions on your driver's license. Miss a court date, get a warrant and the court notifies the state you missed the court date, so you get a suspension on your D/L for failing to comply with a citation.

When you're finished paying all the fines/court costs, you'll still have to get your DL reinstated. That's not free either.

She PMed me shortly after this for another piece of advice on this. She went in and surrendered herself on the warrants and is in the process of paying down the fines.

You don't want to be handled roughly by the police? Something tells me that with the lack of respect for the law, just blowing off all the tickets you received and then mentioning that you are suspended right now even with your disabilities you sound like your one of those up standing citizens that would run your mouth to the police getting yourself in even deeper with possible disorderly persons charges. Maybe it is yourself you should fear and not the police.
