I think I already know the answer to this scenario but would like something more "solid". I often drive in the mountains and the best example of the location would be the Walker River Canyon area on US395 for anyone that knows, but that isn't the only place obviously. For people that may not know what it the road is like, it is one lane each way with two passing zones for each direction with an additional lane after the curvier parts (map).
My car is a Subaru Impreza WRX STI, and as I am sure a few of you know it does pretty well when it comes to roads like this. So my problem and question is what should I do when I come up behind a person that is going really slow (10mph below speed limit or even slower) in the curves but then floors it when I begin to try and pass them in the passing zone only to start going slow again in the curves? I will admit a few years ago when I was more aggressive I would just floor it and try to stay ahead, but now I have calmed down and abort the pass when I hit 5-8mph or so over. Though with the new attitude it still does get frustrating because I then feel like I am heading for a "following to closely" ticket even when I am trying to give the other driver space.
I can't call them in since it is a dead area for most cell phones. The other thing I am wondering is if I would be risking a ticket if I slowed way down to try and give more space and then speed up to the limit again after I see some traffic in my mirrors? I try not to do it in spots where someone may come around a blind curve. The reason I try not to stop completely is often times I had already passed some other cars or even semis before hand and don't want to get stuck in the same situation again.
Also, just to satisfy my curiosity, would it be considered racing if someone did try and floor it past another vehicle like that or reckless driving etc?
Sorry for the long post, but I want to make sure I explained everything properly, thanks for your time
