Hello all! What are my chances of getting hired on with an expungement? The original charge was a misdemeanor. Secondly, when applying, do I need to disclose the information or no as my charge from 7+ years ago has been expunged?

Yes, you have to disclose it. Yes, it will be found.
MOST misdemeanors aren't disqualifying.

It doesn't matter if a conviction is expunged on not. THE CONVICTION STILL HAPPENED so it must be disclosed.
MOST Law Enforcement applications ask the question similar to HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CONVICTED of (whatever the offense). Therefore you need to let them know.I DON'T ALWAYS LIKE BEING A RETIRED POLICE OFFICER .......Oh who the hell am I kiddingI LOVE IT. Stay safe my friends

I greatly appreciate everyone’s response. Of course if the question asked if I’ve been convicted including expungement I would answer yes. My confusion just stemmed from the fact the whole point of an expungement is to, for lack of better term, “erase” it off my record. My hope and goal is to get hired on full-time and was just hoping for some advice from LE on how to handle it properly. Thank you all again!

It Sounds like you’re SERIOUSLY hoping that the question isn’t phrased to include Expungements; it will be phrased correctly.
LE has access to the FULL record, unlike others employers, where they may not be able to pull up the full story.
That’s the whole issue with Expungements, the arrest, conviction, proceedings, whatever you want / choose to label them, STILL DID OCCUR. The Expungement just allows the person to PRETEND like it didn’t happen; it’s Magically erased, NOT!
DO NOT, make the BI pull the complete story out if you, even if they don’t ask, be honest about the “erased crime”, and go over it with them. They may not ask outright, just to see how truthful you are, but they WILL in Jen’s words, circle back,…….
YOU KEEP AVOIDING THE QUESTION, what was the crime, in detail?

Was the charge expunged, then upgraded, were you recharged,…..I’m confused, why the Semantics?!?

The background packet doesn’t even usually bother with “conviction”. It will ask about arrests, police contacts, interviews, etc. A sealed, expunged or even pardoned crime has to be disclosed when the background packet asks anything like that. Even if you were pardoned, you were still arrested.
The purpose of the packet isn’t to determine your criminal history, we already have that.
The purpose to gauge your honesty, integrity and forthrightness. You likely won’t be disqualified for an expunged or pardoned crime, you WILL be disqualified for lying about it.

Why are you referring to it as the Original Charge, vs the Charge?
