  • Starting my second police career!

Started last week in a new police department after retiring 20 years from another agency. It is a strange and overwhelming thing learning how another police department operates, even in the way they write their reports. Have to learn a new computer system, understand their report programs, how to process an arrest, their laws (only had a several hour crash course in this state law), their vernacular and how they communicate on the radio, and of course geographical area of patrol (pretty new to the area). It is all on the job training.

With all that said, I’m very excited! I’m eager to learn and take everything I can as quickly as possible. I’m excited to start a new career in policing in a new agency, but also feel this pressure to represent well the agency I retired from.

That sig was solely for that department, but fixed it.

Congrats, enjoy the honeymoon while it lasts, and always remember that line from Won't Get Fooled Again byThe Who: meet your new boss- same as the old boss.

I come from the NYPD where the department eagerly seeks to find ways to hurt their own. Can only go up from there.
