Goodness. About two years ago, we DQ'd an applicant for, among other things, a shoplifting arrest when he was well into adulthood. 4 other agencies passed on him two. I recently get an email from one of his parents telling me he had since then been hired by another agency and just got promoted to detective. The parent goes on to tell me that I should apologize to the "new detective" because I DQ'd him for "failing a polygraph."

I've had experience working in a university environment...overprotective parents could be a daily occurrence.
I recall a conversation I had with particularly overbearing mom who demanded to see her kid's grades. I explained it was impossible for us to share that information. She asked who she had to talk to to get that permission. My response: "Well, it's a federal law, so...Congress?"Comment
