    Helicopter parents.

Goodness. About two years ago, we DQ'd an applicant for, among other things, a shoplifting arrest when he was well into adulthood. 4 other agencies passed on him two. I recently get an email from one of his parents telling me he had since then been hired by another agency and just got promoted to detective. The parent goes on to tell me that I should apologize to the "new detective" because I DQ'd him for "failing a polygraph."

My response would be... "I'm sorry we had no use for a liar and a thief."

Utter BS. Less than two years and he’s a detective…yeah.

Probably just a plainclothes assignment. Most non le people believe that plainclothes cops are detectives.
also many plainclothes guys don't explain the difference.

Forward the email to his current agency (assuming he was indeed hired).

I've had experience working in a university environment...overprotective parents could be a daily occurrence.

I recall a conversation I had with particularly overbearing mom who demanded to see her kid's grades. I explained it was impossible for us to share that information. She asked who she had to talk to to get that permission. My response: "Well, it's a federal law, so...Congress?"

I just clicked. He’s security and working as a LPO.

              Somehow, I am not surprised.
