Read the story of Drew Peterson. Then think of yourself as a Chief of Police and wonder if YOU would want to hire him, give him a gun & send him out on the streets pretty much unsupervised. . Someone did and his true soul came out many years later.
We can't take that chance when violence against ANYONE is in the historyLast edited by Iowa #1603; 12-01-2020, 05:57 PM.

That chance to “change your life” ship left the dock as soon as you decided domestic violence was ok...
9 charges isn’t “defending” or a one off.

Your best bet is to try to join the military (if they even accept you).
Sealing or expunging a record has almost no chance of being helpful to a LEO position
Instead, the background looks at is what you actually did, irrespective of a court disposition.
You had 9 charges. That's what you did. The one that you were convicted on is the plea agreement. We all know that, anybody who looks at your record will know that. The protection order and actual conviction are just icing on the cake.
I doubt even a fire department would hire you, or a police department as an unarmed CSO. Both are still positions of responsibility and trust.

You have to understand that when it comes to passing a background, no one is concerned with what was adjudicated in court. Such matters are usually predicated on negotiations and bargaining and rarely have anything to do with the reality of what really happened. Instead, the background looks at is what you actually did, irrespective of a court disposition.

a protective order alone will sink a career. Add a harrassment conviction on top of that and you have zero chance. Add the remaining charges (dropped or not) and there is really nothing you can do to unsink that titanic.
Putting in mildly, after doing this job a little while DV offenders are some of my biggest repeat customers. We aren't talking youthful indiscretion. With the harrassment charge you have a document pattern of conduct bad enough to actually get charged and convicted...this means you bypassed a lot of chances to stop your actions and continued. Add to this a protection order....not a peace order but a protection order for issues with an intimate partner and now you have even more stocked against you.

Without a degree, zero
With a degree, zero
I'm going to slightly change your post so you can see it from a different perspective. It is not meant to disrespect you at all. But image the person is applying to work in childcare.
as far as the sexual crimes been charged with 9 things they all came down to one charge which was a possession of child porn and to follow the order of protection first charged ever what are my chances ? ?

So can a degree still put me in that field at all besides carrying a gun ?

Sealing or expunging a record has almost no chance of being helpful to a LEO position. Law enforcement agencies can access “sealed or “expunged” records as needed. Even though you were able to reduce the 9 charges to 1, all will be available to any requesting agency.Last edited by Dinosaur32; 11-30-2020, 05:17 PM.

Extremely low chance.
Your best bet is to try to join the military (if they even accept you). Most likely if they do take you under their wing, you’ll be signing a waiver. Talk to your local recruiter if you can. Try to put some time in serving your country and proving yourself.
People make mistakes, even though in your situation it’s unacceptable I would still try to work on bettering myself.
You can even attempt to seal or expunge your record.
